Adam Clarke on Revelation 1:7. A.C. often interprets the Bible along Preterist lines. Refreshing.
Of course, his commentary came out a few years before Darbyism began to greatly influence eschatology.
------------------
"Verse 7. Behold, he cometh with clouds] This relates to his coming to execute judgment on the enemies of his religion; perhaps to his coming to destroy Jerusalem, as he was to be particularly manifested to them that pierced him, which must mean the incredulous and rebellious Jews.

"And all kindreds of the earth] Πασαι αἱ φυλαι της γης· All the tribes of the land. By this the Jewish people are most evidently intended, and therefore the whole verse may be understood as predicting the destruction of the Jews; and is a presumptive proof that the Apocalypse was written before the final overthrow of the Jewish state."

The problem with Preterism is that the destruction of Jerusalem and the enslavement of the Jews by the Romans and the diaspora of the Jews was not the destruction of the Jews who are now alive and well and free and Rome is gone. The Jewish state did not suffer any final overthrow whatsoever. Nor was Rome able to remove all Jews from Israel. And finally, all gentiles were also responsible along with the Jews for the Crucifixion of Jesus. I suppose that we must say that Adam and Eve and all of their descendants and Noah and his three sons and their wives and all of their descendants were all responsible for the Crucifixion of Jesus and all of the people born since the Crucifixion since when Jesus was on the Cross I was on His mind, to quote the gospel song.

It has everything to do with preterism and I actually discussed what your source said. You said that your quotation was about preterism. I showed that the Jewish state was not destroyed anymore than the Jewish people were destroyed. Even liberal theologians such as Albright have concluded an early date for the New Testament.
