So no evidence, just one more unsubstantiated assertion.

    Carpro:

You made the claim that Dan Rather "KNOWINGLY used fraud to invent a story." [emphasis mine] That is a strong accusation, and you should be able to produce evidence to support such a strong claim.

As you made this claim, it is now time to provide the evidence. Please provide the proof for YOUR claim that Dan Rather "KNOWINGLY used fraud to invent a story."

BiR asked about KNOWINGLY using FRAUD. Where is the evidence on even this one occasion. It may have been sloppy journalism, but where is evidence it was fraud? What other stories has he knowingly used fraud to mislead people? Are you not capable of supporting your assertion?

    No, you didn't.
For the third time, please show us the proof that Dan Rather KNOWINGLY did what you allege. If you cannot provide anything other than a few-word reply, then you are guilty of bearing false witness.

Perhaps you shouldn't use such strong terminology if you cannot provide the proof.......

Obviously carpro, you cannot support your accusations.

    Not true at all.

The National Guard fraudulent document case is common knowledge, or certainly should be. CBS and rather were warned well before airing the program that there were problems with the authenticity of the documents. They used them anyway. I'd say that's "knowingly".

In fairness to you, "The Wall Within" is not such common knowledge but is well documented. I thought you might do a little research on you own.

    Guess not, huh?

As a side note. He even tried to pass himself off as a former Marine. Another fraud.

Was he the producer of that story?

By the way, the document may have been forged, but can anyone give an account of what actually transpired during that time period? I seem to recall that someone was actually offering money to anyone who could confirm that a certain person was actually in Alabama. The last I heard, the money has yet to be collected……

As expected, this is abject fatuity, nothing more.

    Let’s revisit YOUR quote:

The proof you offered for your accusation that Dan Rather “knowingly used fraud to invent a story” was your mention of the story “The Wall Within.” As you seemingly possess an inability to stray from the party line, take a look at the Ann Morse article at the National Review’s website. [“The First Rathergate,” September 15, 2004] I couldn’t find where she made that claim that Dan Rather knowingly used fraud to invent a story. She points out that the people interviewed lied to him, and the statistics cited were not accurate. Furthermore, Ann Morse made reference to “ the growing evidence that he'd been had,.”

Now, perhaps you can show us the proof for your claim “knowingly used fraud to invent a story.” This is turning into a credibility issue for you.…….

    Omigosh!

You're one of those that believes it doesn't matter if the documents were phony, that the story was still true!

So did Rather. He said it and proved it by running the story.

    Talk about incredible!

False evidence doesn't negate the truth of something, it just is not evidence at all. The assertion can still be true or not.

But in the court of law, constitutionally, (since that word seems to be thrown around so much, let's actually try to apply it correctly, for once, eh ?) forged documents means a dismissed case.

Not necessarily. Evidence can be thrown out or deemed inadmissible, yet the case can continue, provided there is other evidence.

Besides, this isn't a legal case, more the court of public opinion, which can be quite different (e.g. O.J. Simpson or Michael Jackson).

Public opinion seems to indicate Dan Rather is a treasonous dope.

You see, this is why Coulter does real harm - she makes such serious accusations seem mundane and acceptable to throw about (treasonous, not dope) when they are not.

Dan Rather proceeded with a faked document, despite warnings that he shouldn't, in a time of war, to make our president look bad. I'd call him a treasonous dope even if I never heard of Coulter. Apparently, I'm in the majority on this one.

Besides, doesn't Rhandi Rhodes, Al Franken, & their ilk do the exact same thing ? Paul Krugman ? Susan Sontag (RIP) ?

I like Ann Coulter, and I like Rush. So what ? I don't let either one dictate the way I feel, I turned right way before I listened to or read either one.

It's not treason to make the president look bad; besides, I think it was to make a presidential candidate look bad. Even libel would be a hard case to make as he seemed to sincerely believe in the truth of the documents.

    I don't know.

I don't know who Rhandi Rhodes and Paul Krugman are. I haven't heard Al Franken wantonly accuse every member of a particular political party of treason; I haven't heard him accuse a particular person of treason (he seems pretty careful with facts for a satirist). I haven't read any Susan Sontag in the last twenty or thirty years - did she accuse people willy-nilly of treason?

If they have, shame on them. Do you have examples? I'm more interested in Franken and Sontag than the two I never heard of.

It is to forge military documents in a time of war, yes it is.

As far as the other stuff, I meant more of the general tone, than the treason comment. I do believe Rather to be a traitor.
