GOP 'Begging For America To Fail'

Not very patriotic of the GOP. Sounds like Rush five years ago.

"I've never seen a time-- can you remember a time in your lifetime when a major political party was just sitting around, begging for America to fail?"

The House voted early Sunday to make major cuts and delays to the Affordable Care Act in exchange for continuing to fund the government. The bill marks the 43rd time that House Republicans have voted to defund or repeal Obamacare. The White House and Senate Democrats have already said that this kind of a demand is a non-starter.

Clinton also said President Obama was right to not take Republican demands seriously.

We have one thing in common. We both despise the GOP leadership in the Congress. However, it is for different reasons. You think there is a gap between them and the Democrats. I think the GOP is 50 feet up the Democrats where the sun does not shine.

You have a good point to make to the GOP apologists on this board. But you fail to see the similarity with your heroes on the Democrat side.

This drama is staged and you are taking it hook, line and sinker. The criminals get on TV and act like they are doing us a favor by governing, by doing the job they were elected to do. They are "rolling up their sleeves and going to work for you." At the last minute there will be a miraculous turn of events, preventing us from going to the pits of hell. Funny, the solution is by politicians that were born in the pits of hell.

While you say the GOP is begging America to fail, which may be true, you fail to point out that the Democrats care as much about the average American citizen as they do a hat rack. Politicians care about one thing, themselves. Their reelection, the money they pick up, the power they gain............this has got to be the lower rung of humanity, lower than Rush Limbaugh.

For all of you that have your nose super glued to the TV tube watching this drama play out, why don't you do something more productive, like trim your nose hairs.

CTB, I know you probably have me on ignore...but seriously. Seriously. The House Republicans have said "let's fund the government." They don't want the country to fail.

What they've said is, "let's look at this healthcare thing one more time." Even the president is now admitting that it's adding taxes when they originally told us it wouldn't. Unions are stepping back and saying this isn't working out the way it was expected. Employers are implementing the only strategies available to them which will still ensure they're able to meet their costs and pay their shareholders--which include some of the same people who supported Obamacare, but they're not stepping forward to say, "no, we don't need the profits, we'll suck up the extra taxes and costs that Obamacare is causing us." And the insurance companies that we were so sure were going to let us have all the new coverages without additional costs--hey, my step-neices are STILL convinced they're not going to have to pay a dime for Obamacare--are raising their rates now before they get locked in and can't raise them.

Shucks, even the administration has said "let's put the employer mandate on hold for a year"...while saying "we'll go ahead and plan on implementing the individual new costs." Does that sound like the administration is lookng out for you and me, or looking out for businesses?

The Republicans have said they'll negotiate and instead of asking for a complete de-funding, how about putting the individual mandate on hold for a year--just like the President put the employer mandate on hold for a year?

The Republicans have actually shown a willingness to negotiate and lower their demands; so really, CTB, who is it that's threatening the continuance of the government?

Frankly, I agree with Saturn, and the whole situation has me disgusted.

No. They have said Let's find the government given that we reject a law that has stood for the last 4 years. That's quite different.

No one who has watched the House GOP members would fall for a suggestion of delaying a year. They are abiding by their decision made before Obama was sworn into office five years ago to oppose anything he proposes.

Also, they are so afraid of the Tea Party that they will never negotiate honestly. They would probably change their position if Obama agreed to all the ask this week. They would simply find another way to delay asking for more concessions.

The American voters are not stupid and more and more see what the GOP is doing ... this and demographics are working against the future of the GOP.

And, as I have said numerous times before the USA needs two good viable political parties. We are heading toward a one party country and all kinds of bad things happen when a country has only one party. This is a definite lesson of history.

We already have a one party system. It's called the authoritarian party. These "big serious debates" in congress are just political theater to keep us divided and not thinking about how together the democrats and republicans have pushed the USA to the brink of disaster

Just more smoke and mirrors from the authoritarian party that has occupied Washington DC. The longer they can keep us distracted and divided with this kind of political theater the longer these corporatist criminals can stay in power.

You know why these idiots will never let a government shut down happen? They're afraid if they did we'd see how much better we could all get along without them and their big government "solutions".

Yes....the GOP wants America to fail....

I think it's more that they see America failing and want to change its direction (which is probably the idea in both camps).

If the bipartisan effort to turn the USA into a totalitarian militarized police state where warrantless spying, summary executions and indefinite detention without due process is the new "legal" norm then we can get a pretty clear picture of which direction they want to take us,

To be fair to old Bill I think the op title is a characterization of the GOP position rather than an intended quote. And I do not believe the fact that no one in the GOP ever said that is a refutation of the characterization.

But what is happening is that extreme left liberals, like old Bill, are scared to death of the Tea Party so they have taken to outlandish accusations like the op and those coming from the DNC talking points. The rhetoric shows the amount of fear.

What form of government would you support? Anarchy? Socialism? A dictatorship? You certainly don't seem to support democracy.

A sad commentary on the state of our public school system. We do not live in a Democracy. We live in a Constitutional Republic.

That may have been true in the past but today we have a corporatist authoritarian form of government. I wish we still had a constitutional republic but we don't.

TND thinks anyone defending the constitution and bill of rights is a commie. Conservatives have always had a distaste for the bill of rights. Civil rights only serve to coddle criminals according to them and anyone who would disagree must be a commie.

He prefers a more authoritarian government. That's probably why he's been in agreement with the authoritarians in the democrat party more often than not these days.

Not that different at all. The law was enacted 4 years ago...and our president has subsequently said that we don't need to follow some of it. How can we take a "law" seriously when its leading proponent won't even fully follow it?

Where I disagree with you -- even Democrats are voting to hold off on obamacare. Are they afraid of the Tea Party republicans?

Where I agree with you -- I believe that the actions of the Republicans in the senate have more than proven your statement and that we already have a one-party system.

Rev. my fear of the Tea Party is that they will effectively kill the GOP and we will truly be left a country with only one political party ... and that, as history has shown us over and over, is a recipe for disaster.

If the GOP goes the way of the Whigs, so be it. They have tried since 1932 to stand on the platform of "Me, too." It would be good for the Democrats to be the sole party because they then could take responsibility for what they are doing. However, I think that the Taxed Enough Already Party would be the new second party. The big drawback to the Tea Party is that they are focused solely on economic problems and do not see that moral problems are related to economic problems. One of the big problems since Nine Eleven has been Freedom of Conscience and the erosion of that basic freedom by the Democrats.
