GOP Fall Strategy: Slam Health Law

The party of No remains the party of No. Is the GOP for anything? They never say what the are for, only what they are against.

Republican leaders are telling the party's House members that persistent criticism of the federal health-care law is the best path to victory this fall regardless of how the law's implementation evolves ahead of the November elections.

Leaders of the congressional wing of the party say opposition to the Affordable Care Act will resonate with the voters most likely to go to the polls, and they are encouraging House members, currently at home for a two-week recess, to keep up their attacks.

The Obama administration last week said 7.5 million people had signed up for policies through the law's federal and state health-insurance exchanges, a number Democrats say shows the law has gained momentum and is starting to fulfill its goal of providing coverage to previously uninsured Americans. This week, the Congressional Budget Office said premiums for plans sold through the exchanges would cost less than previously expected.

You have to pay to read the entire story online so it is impossible to comment on an article that you cannot read. It is safe to say that the Wall Street Journal represents the moneyed interests of people like Karl Rove and not the general GOP when it comes to political strategy. The Democrats, we know, are playing Russian roulette to see who has to campaign alongside of Obama this fall since Obama is so toxic because of his lie that you could keep your plan and your doctor if you liked them. If fact, Obama, in addition to his Nobel Prize, was awarded the "lie of the year" award for his big lie.

It's a great strategy. Millions of people have personal, and negative, views of ObamaCare. Awesome vote-getting strategy.

The GOP is for lower taxes, limited government, less regulations, free trade, 2nd amendment rights, privatizing social security, tort reform, traditional marriage, a balanced budget, energy independence, etc.

Here is an article you can read in its entirety. I have felt for some time that the GOP may be putting too many of their eggs in the anti-Obamacare basket.

Many Americans have liked what Obamacare does, but they’re still suspicious of what it is. Solid majorities favor the provisions that bar discrimination by insurers, set higher standards for health plans, and subsidize coverage through tax credits and Medicaid. Yet the Affordable Care Act managed only a 38% favorable rating in the Kaiser Family Foundation’s March tracking poll (up four points from January). Some 46% of respondents still held negative views.

Republicans relish the prospect of running against health care reform in this fall’s elections, but here’s what many are forgetting: Americans may not yet love Obamacare, but they like it better than anything the Republicans are offering.

New results from a Reuters/Ipsos tracking poll show that Dems lead the GOP by at least seven percentage points on health care. Of the 1,2000 adults interviewed between April 1 and April 16, 29% said they believe Dems have “the better plan for health care.” Only 22% favored GOP proposals.

The GOP really needs to come up with some ideas and strategies other than No.

To quote a famous old bard" "Methinks thou doth protest too much!"

If I were a D, I sure wouldn't be telling the Rs how to gain more votes; but then that's not really what you are doing, is it?????

More like trying a little reverse psychology & hoping it will take root, is it not??

I have no belief that the GOP will listen to anything I would suggest. Also, the articles are online and I am sure there are many in the GOP who read them ... but for whatever reasons will not change.

I do feel the GOP in its intransigence is becoming less and less of a viable party. The number of white old men, like me, is declining. The GOP seems bent on alienating just about every other group in the nation. That will not win them national elections and in time will cost them at the stat end local level. They must change from being a party that simply says no to a party that at least offers viable alternatives. IMHO they are not doing that, but often propose ridiculous ideas that may win a few brownie points with their declining base, but continues to cost them in the overall population of our society.

A healthy democracy needs two good healthy parties. One lesson of history is that when one party gains too much power, is in office too long very bad things begin to happen. My fear is that with the GOP on a course of destruction they are setting the USA up for bad times ahead ... after my life however.

Crabby is projecting. See it ticks him off when there are posts that are critical of Obama. Like mos libs he thinks because of that if he posts things critical of the GOP it will equally tick off conservatives on the board. Little does he know that it just aint true.

ROFL. Thanks for a good laugh. Merry laughter is good for the body and soul. Rev. it takes a whole lot more than what you post to make me angry. I figured out years ago that anger is simply wasted energy.

By the way, you are completely off topic ... again. Also, are you simply telling us the reasons you always post something negative about Obama.

Now, how about posting something on the topic of the OP.

The GOP is positioning itself to go out of business and that would be tragic for America. They need to change and begin broadening their base. We while old men will not live forever.

You say Repubilcans strategy of emphasizing the failures of ObamaCare is being the party of NO.

I wonder what Democrats in the lead up to the 1974 elections would say if Republicans implored them to "quit being so negative. Why do you keep bringing up Watergate?"

Which is why I intend to post this on every thread he starts from now on ...

What is your interest in saving the GOP ?

You say you want a viable opposition party, but it does not appear you want them to oppose anything.

I believe I have explained a number of times, that a healthy democracy must have at least two healthy parties. Currently, IMHO, we do not have two healthy parties. The GOP is interested only in the rich and in maintaining power for themselves. They are not for the average American and certainly as long as they pursue a number of policies they now push they are very anti a number of minorities ... including women.

A person does not have to agree with both parties to realize that two viable parties are important.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

What do you want this party to do ? It seems you want them only to agree with democrats on everything. You call the people who support them racists, accuse them of hating women, and wanting people to die without affordable health care.

Anyone who grabs at your thorny flower of reconciliation is a fool. You do not care about the GOP, or anyone who supports them.

When a Democrat says that he is looking out for you, check the button on your wallet pocket and tell your wife to lock the car doors.

Al Gore even brought up the 1930's Great Depression in 2000, blaming it on Hoover. Now that the truth is finally coming out it was Roosevelt's policies that extended the recession, creating a depression, a policy Obuma is mimicking: Tax and spend. Our entrance into WWII finally ended the FDR Depression. But all my life I have heard HOOOOOVER Times from rabid democrats like CTB.
