GOP introduces plan to massively cut Social Security

The GOP is planning your quality of life when you are old ... and it isn't pretty.

From: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/...-massively-cut-social-security-222200857.html

For most workers, the bill would cut Social Security benefits substantially. As Michael Linden, associate director for tax and budget policy at Center for American Progress, pointed out on Twitter, a letter from Social Security’s Office of the Actuary calculated workers making around $50,000 would see checks shrink by between 11% and 35%.

Nearly every income bracket would see a reduction, save for the very bottom. People making around $12,280 in 2016 who have worked for 30 years would see an increase of around 20%. But young people making the same amount would be hit hard by the changes. If they had 14 years of work experience by 2016, they would see their benefits cut in half.

ROFL.

You really have trouble understanding. No where in the article I referenced is Trump mentioned. Reread it and try to understand who is wanting to cut your Social Security.

It would appear you did not even read all of your own article. I'll quote from it for you.

No matter how it's sliced and diced, Johnson's plan calls for benefit cuts — one of the biggest no-nos in American politics. All eyes are therefore on President-elect Trump, who repeatedly said during the 2016 campaign that he would not consider cutting Social Security — or did he?

I would like a reference that says the head of the GOP is going to cut SS benefits.

The good senator from Texas is a member of the GOP. The article did not say the head, whoever that is, of the GOP entered the bill. No where in the article does it say the head of the GOP. No where did I say the head of the GOP. I said the GOP and those who support the bill are GOP'ers. Try to understand. Try to be coherent and on-topic.

Do you want your future Social Security benefits cut and you retirement delayed?

I helped elect Rep. [not Senator, good or bad] Johnson, and whatever the truth is, I'm sure he knows benefits won't be cut, so he's stretching to get a lot of what he wants-- just like unions and/or the Democratic machines. His 42 months in solitary confinement in a bamboo cage may have changed his focus of what's necessary to stay alive, no matter how much democrats like Hanoi Jane told him it was all his own fault.

This is an issue that has gone on for years. The SS machine is in trouble, from what I can understand about the system in laymen terms is that funds go in front door (some gets siphoned off, some folks call it legalized robbery) and what's left goes out the back door to SS recipients.

IOW it is not a like a savings account but a DDA account which sometimes "bounces" checks.
But it's OK we just print some more green backs to keep it "solvent".

Sooner or later a method to privatize "social security" has to be developed to keep it out of the politician hands that can never be satisfied.

Trump has stated he won't cut SS benefits. He's the guy in charge.

Did you take civics in high school?
--------------------------------------------
He may be president after Jan. 20th, but he won't be the dictator. I have a strong feeling that he is not going to like being president very much once he gets into the office. Congress, and especially the bureaucracy can make his life pretty miserable, especially as he has such thin skin.

But no you see and admit that GOP senators have introduced a bill to cut social security benefits and raise the retirement age. Is that right?

What a mixed up paragraph. Thanks for the good laugh this morning. Laughter is very beneficial for a person's health. Thanks again.

Congress can fix the problem without cutting benefits. The GOP simply does not care about the poor and elderly. You are younger than I so you will have to live with it much longer. Have fun.

Oh, and on elections. The good folk in Texas who elected Johnson have an affect your your life. You can thank them.

You are right Hank. It has been an issue for years and years. Good congressmen/women in the past helped create the problem. It can be fixed without cutting benefits.

Social Security has been called the 'third rail in American politics'. Will be interesting to see what happens on this one.

In this we agree CTB. It will take the "Wisdom of Solomon" to repair/refurbish the Social Security System.
Agreed - it's possible.

We all have the right to complain about the president without fear of governmental reprisal.

And as Christians we should pray for the president and his administration as well.

Well, I do enjoy a good laugh.

Now, how do you feel about cutting Social Security benefits and raising the retirement age?
I can give my answer: I'm all for it as long as there is supplemental privatized portions of the Social Security system to replace said cuts. Similar perhaps to health management systems for medicare.

Better yet create a plan that starts at the cradle and ends at retirement.
The funds must be UNTOUCHABLE by the federal government as they are addicted to spending our money illegally.

One other outrageous act is - when someone passes away before the minimum retirement age (like 61) No benefits are received by anyone other than a pittance burial fee though the deceased paid into the system all his/her life. Next of kin should receive some recompense.

Yes its complicated but at a minimum we have to get the governments hands out of the Cookie Jar!!!
