GOP Should Shut Down Senate

If the dems want to use the "nuclear" tactic.. then the Rep have every right to shut down the senate...

The American people are speaking at the town halls, and the dems have realized that unless they pull this trick, they will never get their socialist agenda passed...

It's easy to see the anger from pervert Bawney fwank when he compared the lady to a dining hall table...

I am in favor of shutting down the senate... this country might thrive if the idiots in both parties would shut up, step out of the way, and let the American people do what we do best!!!!

Fair enough - but does one cheap trick (A trick which, if I am not mistaken, was invented by Republicans) deserve another? Should the Republican minority really shut down the Senate?

For RAdam:

Same reply - does one cheap trick deserve another.

Do we really want a government that runs at the level of cheap political tricks?

Want kind of precedent will that set for the day when (supposed) conservatives return to power and the Democrat minority decides to shut down the Senate?

To answer.. yes..

If the dems want to play hardball then the Reps should not cower and walk away.. .

If Obama and the liberals want it chicago style... play it chicago style....

Maybe that's the WVian talkin in me.. but never back down from a fight...

And if the Reps let the ungodly Dems pull these tricks, without retaliation, then the Reps are weak and wimpy and don't deserve votes.

It is clear from the town halls and tea parties that Americans are fed up with Washington... if it means shutting the Senate down till 2011, then do it!

The GOP is the party of obstructionism, after all. They are quickly becoming the crybabies of America. Or better yet, the death cries of a dying dinosaur. Maybe we can bring back the Whig Party. Can't be any worse. Or maybe the Bull Moose Party.

It looks like the republicant's just might have been outsmarted by the Democrats. Since they cannot count on bipartisanship, I hope they pass this legislation without any republican votes.

One of a number of reasons they lost the last election big time.

If they do, and I don't believe they have the guts, it will be the death of the democrat/socialist party.

As an ex south west Virginian and a rebel South Carolinian I say let the revolution start! Give it to the Chicago gang hillbilly style!

The GOP is a group of spineless thieves, much like their Democratic counterparts. They can flap their jaws all they want (sort of like using abortion and family values at election time), but when they stop government long enough for social security checks to stop, or medicare or medicade to stop, veterans benefits, or retired military pay, guess what, they will show what they really are, a lot of hot air. Hope Senators Vitter, Ensign, and Craig can take time out of their extra marital activites to participate in the slow down.

No, here is a better idea. Lets make the Constitution Party and Libertarian Party the two main parties, take over the Senate, and govern like we should be governed. I am sure their is room in the federal pen for the former Senate members.

Whup up on Vitter and Ensign all you want. Craig is no longer there; find another dead horse to beat. You might try that odd fellow Barney F or Queen Pelosi or dingy Harry or the jack booted thug Durbin, or swift boat Kerry; shall I go on?

A question: What is with this Constitution/Libertarian party, I thought you, and possibly poncho, were members of the Conspiracy party?

So much so, that ALL state employees is getting a $500 bonus!

While liberal states are struggling.. .we are thriving!

OH.. and we voted AGAINST Obama!... Go figure!...

And as soon as we get rid of the scourge of our state (Byrd) we will be even better!

Nope, no conspiracy thoughts on my part. I appreciate your posts especially in the theology sections. Your thinking is sound and logical compared to most on this board. Our only reason to disagree focuses on the Republican Party. We agree about the Democrats. Using family values as a plank to garner votes, then have this number of elected officials in such conduct is outrageous. I believe deep down inside you know the last person worthy to hold the office of President was Reagan. From Reagan on, both parties have spent us into oblivion, failed to control the borders, and have not followed the Constitution. To me, you either believe in governing by the Constitution or you do not. Democrats and Republicans are only different by the distance they have moved from that goal.

Here is some more facts about that booming West Virginia economy! They rank 49th out of the 50 states, just ahead of Mississippi. ( 2007)

It's not a cheap trick, it's procedure, and in a nation that has been polarized by a socialist thug, it's the last peaceful check of absolute despotism.

West Virginia is a beautiful state, but land of opportunity it is not. It is always fighting it out with Mississippi for last place in income, education, etc. The "booming" economy is largely minimum wage service jobs. There is nothing wrong with such jobs, but there is little else to which one can aspire and stay in the state unless one is a physician. While I admire the work ethic of those in the coal mines, it is a dirty and thankless job that ruins a person's body before their time.

As for the Democrats vs. Republicans, let's see...pulling a page from the GOP playbook, the Democrats should shut down the filibuster with the so-called nuclear option, and pass a single payer, government run health insurance program post haste.

Your memory is... selective, to say the least.

The "nuclear option" was to be used only for judicial confirmations.

Democrats will use it to saddle the nation with a plan the majority of the people don't want at a cost we can't afford.

Your intellectual dishonesty continues.

My questions is how does one shut The Senate down? Would this mean that Republicans would just not show up? To me that would be like not showing up to vote on an issue & would allow the liberals to have their way. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

If I recall correctly, recently within the last three years, the Democrats pulled a similar tactic where they stayed in session all night & all day. I don't remember what they were trying to get passed or whether it worked or not. I think the idea was to catch Republicans leaving the session so they could pass their legislation without their presence or with smaller numbers.
