Amen, TCG. All of Ulsterman's objections are traditions. The saving grace of Christ is sufficient.

I agree with this, but there is nothing in the article to suggest this is the kind of faith Mr. Gorbachev has, to the contrary he seems to have faith in Christ AND Francis, which suggest to me that he doesn't have a hold on what the Christian faith is. It is presumptious to rejoice in his conversion and count him as a brother Christian, if it is merely a matter of religion. I accept that people of other traditions may be saved, and contrary to my detractors' protests I am not so narrow minded as to believe that everyone must believe everything I do to be considered a brother. For some it would seem that to say you are a Christian is enough. Well, on that basis we must accept Mormonism, Arianism, and every other ism and schism as a manifestation of true faith where the professors proclaim themselves as 'Christian'. Sorry, no can do.

Folks, It is my considered opinion that it makes sense to doubt the salvation of a member of the ROC or RCC. Remember, they may use the same vocabulary but they use a different dictionary.

Yes, Mr. Gorbachev may have professed a faith in Christ. The question then becomes "Which Christ?"

Gullibility seems to be the latest rage in most areas of today's society!

Pity; when God has given us "The Manufacturers Handbook" for our daily use & guidance.

It's a dillema the Christian should never have, & the more we let the Spirit guide us, the less chance of such gullibility to most of the trash being being espoused.

It is equally presumptious for a human to reject another person's salvation. There is no theological reason why God could not have elected all mormons and rejected all baptists.

With all due respect I think you need to do some serious thinking about Mormon theology. Based upon the revelation of God there is every reason why God could not have elected Mormons, not least of all their belief in the satanic lie of Eden that men may become gods. Mormonism isn't even close to Christian, and their rejection of the sufficiency of Christ's atonement and reliance on works for salvation puts them well outside the pale of God's elect.

Hallelujah! I've been praying that he would become a Christian since July or August of 1986. :jesus: :godisgood: Heaven is rejoicing!

I've been praying for Vladimir Putin since May 14, 2000. We'll see what happens.

<Sigh> I feared this would degenerate into the usual Catholic-bashing session:rolleyes: Why can't folks just rejoice in Gorby's spiritual journey towards Christ instead of demanding that he subscribe to every jot and tittle of their own belief system?

Which is different from a seemingly unquestioning acceptance of an otherwise cause for rejoiceing. I am reminded of the reaction to the news of Saul of Tarsus' conversion. That wasn't exactly accepted without question.

Just heard a news report on the radio about this and have not taken the time to look for more info, but Gorbechev was quoted as saying. "I am and always have been an atheist."

I don't know anything about THIS SOURCE but it is a start.

No, No, Roger, that cannot be! He must surely be a Christian because he visited a shrine to St. Francis!. We must all rejoice with the angels in heaven as a new believer has been born! :BangHead:

Hmmm, so anyone who visits a shrine is not a Christian. :BangHead:

No, not neccesarily. But Ulsterman was commenting on the unquestioning leap of logic made by many.

I was wondering if the people willing defend Gorby's salvation without a word from him, were the same ones who doubt Ann Coulter's salvation even after she's made several public proclamations of Christ.
