What natural predators of deer?

there are more deer here now than there were 400 years ago because of the crops we plant and the deer eat, and because of conservation.

In Colonal days in the East there were Mountain Lions [Cougars] and to some extent wolves. They were natural preditors of deer. They no longer exist and thus there are no natural preditors left in the East.

You are right, there are more deer now than 400 years ago. There is much more grassland and open land than 400 years ago. So, there is more for them to eat. However, in some areas the deer is so over populated that many are starving.

Oh and no, I am not a deer hunter.

My point was that the deer overpopulation is not due to killing off predators..Man kills many more deer each year than predators ever did, and yet there is still overpopulation.

"We faced an approximately $750,000 campaign from our opponents -- including Safari Club International and a $400,000 state-funded campaign approved by Governor Sarah Palin and the Alaska legislature. They used deceptive propaganda and the authority of the Alaska government to defeat the ballot initiative.
.
"But thanks to the generous support of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund activists and donors, we were able to reach thousands of voters. Yesterday, over 75,000 Alaskans voted to end this barbaric practice.

"Despite this loss, we're not giving up -- Alaskans for Wildlife will continue to hold the state Board of Game's feet to the fire and redouble our efforts to end this brutal program."

Any decent human being who has seen the videos of this practice would be sickened by it.

On a scale of 1-10 for importance in a national election, I give it somewhere around a minus 5.

Surely you can come up with something that matters....

I won't let it drop. When people ask me about her I will simply state that I won't vote for a wolf killer.

But someone who wants to defend baby killers is ok?

But you will vote for a man that supports the slaughter of children.

Strange priorities for a Christian...

At least I can say I disagree with Senator Obama on the issues of abortion and homosexual marriage. Not one of you have said that you disagree with senseless, barbaric wolf killing.

Unbelievable.

Well, we are better off with the deer.

I agree. You don't have to worry about a deer walkin in the back door and snatchin yer baby outta the crib or yer dog off the floor like them wolves and cougers will do. ;)

I wrote that as a joke. But seriously I did see a news piece a week or so ago where woman had one of her two yellow labs snatched out of her bedroom by a mountain lion because she had left a door open at night.

That's because we are consistent.

I don't have a problem with this hunting, so I am fine with Palin.

I am not comfortable with abortion, so I am not fine with Obama.

I'll vote for a wolf killer over a baby killer any day...:BangHead:

Actually, I have a problem with voting for Senator Obama because of his abortion and homosexual marriage stances. However, the alternative is Senator McCain.

She is against abortion. Is she pro or against capital punishment?

I always find it interesting that people who are against abortion are pro capital punishment. Always seems a contridiction to me ... and the other way around also. Seems we humans are not consistant very often.

That's because we don't (or at least I don't) disagree with hunting wolves (and you have yet to explain how it is "barbaric," you've only said that you are against it).:BangHead:

Talk is cheap.

Your actions put the lie to your talk.

Not to derail this thread, but there is nothing inconsistant with being against abortion and for capital punishment. We can start another thread on this topic in the General Baptist Discussions Forum id you like.

Figures. I am not surprised.

Yup. I'm one of those heartless conservatives who don't care about the hunting of those precious little wolves. I'd rather prevent the murder of children, but that's just me.
