Grace Without Ceremony: The Scriptural Rejection of Sacramental Imparted Grace

Opening Statement

Grace Without Ceremony argues that Scripture presents divine grace as the direct work of God through Jesus Christ, not as a substance imparted through ritual acts or administered through a sacerdotal priesthood. The apostles consistently describe salvation, cleansing, justification, and sanctification as acts of God received through faith in Christ. The New Testament grounds spiritual life in a direct relationship between the believer and the risen Lord.

Christ Is the Only Mediator

The fundamental problem with sacramental imparted grace is that it inserts human administration where Scripture places Christ alone.

Paul writes:

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all." 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Scripture does not speak of many mediators dispensing grace through successive priestly channels. It speaks of one Mediator between God and men.

Because Christ alone mediates between God and man, every believer has direct access to God through Him.

"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16

"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus." Hebrews 10:19

The believer approaches God through Christ Himself, not through an earthly priesthood.

The Priesthood of Every Believer

The New Testament does not establish a special class of priests through whom grace must be dispensed.

Peter writes:

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people." 1 Peter 2:9

Likewise:

"Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father." Revelation 1:5-6

Every believer belongs to this priesthood. The distinction is not between priests and ordinary Christians. Rather, all Christians possess direct access to God through Christ.

This is precisely why the book of Hebrews emphasizes that Christ's sacrifice ended the old priestly system:

"And every priest standeth daily ministering..."

Colophon

Written in defense of the sufficiency of Christ's mediation, the finished work of His sacrifice, and the priesthood of all believers.

Affirming that divine grace is received by faith through Jesus Christ alone, apart from sacerdotal administration, ritual efficacy, or ceremonial transmission.

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

And Christ's mediation is sufficient.

Unus Mediator, Una Fides, Una Gratia - "One Mediator, One Faith, One Grace."
