My family went to a funeral yesterday and the preacher had a acrostic for grace.

God
Recognizing
A
Christian
Effort​

This was in a Methodist Church. Setting aside spiritual things, I still see no grace in this.

1) Is there anyone that would agree with this?

Have you heard any other acrostics?

I don't know, nor care, about acrostics, no disrespect intended.
All I know is that grace is God being merciful to a sinner long before that sinner was ever even born, and covenanting with His Son to redeem that sinner in time.

That is grace in all its undeservedness.

I agree that "God Recognizing A Christian Effort" is the complete antithesis of grace. Grace is something good which we do not deserve. (Mercy is the witholding of something bad that we do deserve).

The first one you listed doesn't make any sense.
You would have to already be a Christian to receive grace.
How do you become a Christian without grace???

The second one is the one I've always heard.

I don't know of any other "grace" acrostics, but I've heard this one before:

The best def of grace I have ever heard is that Grace is the overflow of God's self-sufficiency.

I know it is not an acrostic, but if you think of it, it is good.

I agree. If this were true, catholics and other works based religions would be the only ones in Heaven. That pastor obviously has no idea what grace is :tear:

Considering God wouldn’t be recognizing the effort if one was not a Christian I don’t see it as too problematic. I suppose for contention qualities it could be interpreted as work based by ones center of focus on cause and effect instead of influence and response as per John 15 on Christian efforts if it pleased one to pursue that avenue for medicinal dissing purposes.

(Joh 15:5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

(Joh 15:6) If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

(Joh 15:7) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

(Joh 15:8) Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
