Graham-Cassidy health care bill to replace ObamaCare: What is it


President Trump on Wednesday offered his support of Senate Republicans’ latest effort to replace the Affordable Care Act.

Trump expressed his approval of the Graham-Cassidy Bill – put forth by Sens. Lindsey Graham, S.C., and Bill Cassidy, La. – Wednesday, even going so far as to criticize the lone Republican senator who already opposed it.


What does the legislation do?

The Graham-Cassidy legislation would implement a block grant program that gives funding to states, which would then have a wide leeway on how that money is spent.

“We’ll allow [the] states to come up with solutions to help sick people, not just some bureaucrat in Washington,” Graham told Fox News.

“We’ll eliminate the individual mandate, the heart and soul of ObamaCare, that is gone at the federal level. We take the money and send it back to the states in a block grant formula where they can administer health care,” Graham added.

Let me get this straight - Citizens are forced to send money to DC- then the Feds pay someone to send the money to the individual State/Commonwealth.

Why not just let the State/Commonwealth collect the money and keep Federal Govt workers out of it.

Because the big government Congress critters have made it their mission in life to control every facet of life down to the local level. That is why our tax system will never change - it's called "central control" or as Frank Zappa once said " the central scrutinizer".

This is the best bill over this, getting rid of all the Obamacare mandates and just giving off block grants to the states. Rand is actually correct that GC does leave "too much" of Obamacare intact but it gets rid of the worst of it and leaves a framework for further improvements. The only thing I don't like about it so far is the sweetener they have offered to AK (for Princess Lisa's support) and HI (for smoke), this is they way they traded horses for Obamacare.

And there he goes again, that little weasel McCain. Face it, the Republicans are terrible at the political game. If the tables were reversed, all the Democrats would be on board and Obamacare would get repealed.

Graham-Cassidy wants to get rid of Obamacare by turning over health insurance to state control in the form of block grants. States would receive a chunk of money to do with it as they see fit to customize health insurance legislation to fit the needs of their citizens.

Sounds like a good idea, in that it would get rid of Obamacare (if individual states wanted to) and it seems more in line with the 10th amendment and the Constitution in general.

But Sen. John Kennedy R-La wants to put a condition on the states' rights to run their own health insurance program--no single payer system allowed. I guess his attitude is that the 10th amendment is OK so long as states do what he thinks is right.

McCain is all about McCain. Always has been. He loves being a deal breaker, a so called maverick. Mostly he just loves being the center of attention.

An he hates Trump. Loves seeing that his campaign promise is not kept.

I didn't have any qualms about a state going single-payer, there is no realistic way that will happen unless state taxes are increased astronomically.

McCain is very sick, he will probably not live to see Obamacare collapse and he won't change parties as he should because I think he's holding out for the governor to appoint Meghan, his stupid daughter.

The BIG difference between democrats and republicals is that the Dems will have run off the cliff as a single unified group to get what they want, while Rhino republicans are killing Trump efforts so far!
