Folks might be taken a little aback by Monergism vs Synergism so I thought I could put it a little differently.
There is a passage in Isaiah that has always intrigued me:
Isaiah40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
It is my opinion that, just as a grasshopper has no concept of man, sinful mankind, being mortal, will never have any concept of the perfect righteousness, the holiness of the Triune God. That being the case I would ask the questions:
1. Do I, the grasshopper, say? “Holy God: I am eternally grateful for your sovereign grace through which You chose me unto salvation through the finished work of Jesus Christ. I now understand that:
a. You chose me through no merit of my own.
b. Though I was spiritually dead in trespass and sin You made me spiritually alive,
c. You granted unto me salvation, and
d. You made me accepted in the beloved.
Because this done solely by the work of the Holy Spirit I cannot boast but can only say as did the Psalmist my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. [Psalm 13:5]
2. Do I, the grasshopper, say? “Holy God: I am grateful for the salvation that you made possible through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. I realize that though I was a sinner I was chosen unto salvation in Jesus Christ because, in your omniscience, You knew that I would respond to the gospel call and accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.”
3. Do I, the grasshopper, say? "Holy God: I am grateful for the salvation that you made possible through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. Unlike those sinful people who reject your gracious offer of Salvation I am thankful that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior.”
