Great preachers

"Why do you call me good? There is one good--God".

Jesus said that--during His earthly ministry.

We do the real men of God a disservice by giving them accolades. If they do anything worthwhile, the praise goes to God, not to man.

There is only one "great preacher"--we crucified Him.

King James, I find it hard to listen to Stanley, especially in light of his divorce and his promise to step down if it happened. He didn't, and I lost most of my respect for him. This isn't to say that he's not a good preacher, because he is. I just have a hard time listening to him because of his not keeping his promise. I have a great deal of respect for his son for making the hard choice of separating from his father and his fathers ministry.

 

Brother James, giving a person a good word for his preaching is not setting him above Christ. Are you trying to be booger here?

 

From watching John Hagee I don't think he's passing on the fruitcake either...

As for taking the meat and leaving the bones...there are plenty of good teachers that serve 'boneless' nmeat and yes it's worth more!

 

Years ago John Haggee left his wife and married his secretary. The church he pastors is nothing like what one sees on TV. The TV only gives a part of the service. He is a pentecostal through and through.

 

Hey there...I hear what you are saying. I thought he should step down as pastor myself but then I thought that the gifts and callings of God were without repentance. God doesn't take the gift back. Anyone of us (including a pastor) can sin so if a man is repentant then I believe he can still pastor. If not, I still think he's a good preacher.

 

Stanley offered to resign and the church asked him not to. I think that moment his call wass affirmed.

Old dress stndereds..... I don't own a robe or sandals.....That is what they wore in the KJV Bible? I don't guess I meet them.

Never heard of him. I like John Piper, but I read alot more of his sermons than I get to hear them. I also enjoy Allister Begg, John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, and James Kennedy.

 

Bro.James...did you know that God Himself is going to reward preachers? If He can do that, we can say a kind word about them. Also...if one can say NEGATIVE things about a preacher, one can say POSITIVE things as well. Me-thinks you doth protest too much.

I myself actually like listening to Sproul and MacArthur. I have never heard them say I was a hell bound heretic when I am a Christian.

 

Speaking of great preachers, how do you guys feel about Robert Tilton?

Seriously, though...I thoroughly enjoy Tony Evans, but have also enjoyed listening to some preachers that are not nationally famous at all. A couple weeks back, for instance, Roy Spannagel from the Missouri Baptist Convention came and delivered a wonderful and challenging message.

 

I don't think I've ever heard Tony Evans speak but the brother can write. I like his books.

Anyone heard of David Jeremiah? I think he's a good preacher.

 

I like David Jeremiah. He is good. He can dig deep!!!

 

Yeah yer right. I gotta find when he's on in my area now...haven't heard him in a while.

 

There are many good preachers in ministry today. Many are probbally here on this board. I love to hear a man of God preach The Word of God.

What I find interesting is when you compare the KJVO stance to the early NT Christians who could not read and were saved. Depending on the area literacy was from 1-10% with most at about 2%.

Granny, I don't think anyone would ever consider you a "sissy" Christian. Though I don't agree with ff on his position, and I have studied and been on both sides of the issue, I can agree to disagree, as well you know. But, I must interject that stating that the MV's are "corrected" versions of the Word of God is an incorrect assumption. The history of the KJV is just as full of powder kegs. Enough said on that subject...

Another great preacher, though now passed on was Dr. Paul Levin. I loved to hear him at youth camp!
I also loved to hear Dr. B. Myron Cedarholm and Dr. Richard Weeks. They were two great men of God.

 

Indeed, all will be rewarded. To whom much is given, much is expected. Some have their reward on earth--the accolades of men. Some will receive from Jesus: a "Well done, thou good and faithful servant"--which applies to more than preachers.

"Jesus Christ, and Him crucified" does not normally draw large crowds. The majority of the "religious world" is not preaching the True Gospel, but rather a social gospel.

Dumb question: What happens to the millions of dollars generated from the selling of books and tapes connected to the ministries of "great preachers"?
