Just finished listening to the sermon (by Sinclair Ferguson), and I agree, it is great. I'm now listening to the "Question and Answer" session, and that seems good so far, too.

Which Q&A session, note that there are 3...lol. I think Ligonier Conferences are incredibly well done. Just look at the talent they amass to provide sermons & teaching! Thank God for the power of the INTERNET, right!

"Heaven helps those who help themselves..."

The essence of human-centered theology! Great line, greater point.

"...Many people think. Grace is some substance. You GET grace... And as you 'get grace' you move on from one stage to the next. There's no such thing as grace... There is only Jesus Christ! There's not something outside of Jesus Christ that the Holy Spirit dispenses to you in lump figures. Grace is not 'something dispensed to you... That all that Christ has done for us is of no value to us unless we get, by faith, Jesus Christ Himself."

Preacher went on to explain how the entire Medieval system, layer upon layer, from God, through Christ and the Holy Spirit, through Mary, through saints, through the pope, cardinal, bishop, priest, and sacrament, finally to minuscule man, who got crumbs of grace, was exploded by Calvin's teaching that we get CHRIST! Nothing between us and Christ... The Holy Spirit brings us directly to Christ who is ALL our righteousness! We mistakenly think that there is something that the Holy Spirit can "give us" that will allow us to come to Christ without having Christ Himself... He gives us Christ, Himself.

I like almost everything Ligonier does. It is the only ministry that is not a church that I regularly $upport.
