Now: This is where some will post and point out the problems with the Republican party...I might not disagree with you...but let's avoid the deflection tactic and stay on topic.

Do ya'll think that it's even possible to reach a "tipping point" here...that the Dem's might actually take it far enough to turn off voters?

Opinion seems divided. Personalities such as Glenn Beck say yes...that there will be a "pendulum effect." Others say no...that we've become more liberal...and that the Dems positions are simply reflections of a new reality in American political thought.

What say you?

Of course. Historically there are swings, and the Dems won't be in power forever. Certainly both parties tend to overreach when given the chance. However, I do think that as the pendulum swings, it is shifting toward the left overall. This reflects society as a whole. We are a much more liberal society than even 20 years ago.

I agree with you.

I will say, though, that the dems may be messing up, as Tim alluded to...in that the California & New York Democrats are pushing things further left than your less liberal dems are ready to go. If they keep pushing, the Democrats could see the splintering of the party that the Republicans dealt with...

Also, as evidence of the shift to the left, I think that in today's political spectrum, John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, would likely be seen as more conservative than George W. Bush, a Republican.

Indeed also!!! I agree that JFK was far more conservative than GB.

This is just one indicator that the art of "compromise" has been extremely detrimental to the conservative view, as most of the compromise has been steadily shifting left.

Is the tipping point near? Who knows; but if it is not reached real soon it will be a moot point, as the "citizen's voice" will mean squat.

This is something I've been pointing out for about two years now.

Third parties are reaching record numbers of new members precisely because people in both the Republican and Democrat parties are waking up.

Democrats are realizing that their party has been taken over by socialists, extremists, and in at least one case, Marxists, and are finally saying, "Wait a second, this is not what I signed on for". We are seeing more and more Democrats repeat Ronald Reagan's famous words, "I didn't leave the Democrats. The Democrats left me."

Republicans, on the other hand, are baffled that their party, the once great conservative party of Reagan, is now the party of bailouts, pork laden "stimulous" packages, and spending. The party that once fought expansive government tooth and nail, is now one of its greatest benefactors.

Many former Republicans, such as myself, have left because it seems that the Republicans have abandoned their ideals in favor of trying to out Democrat the Democrats.

It absolutely broke my heart having to turn from the Republican party, but when a local conservative social group I belong to played a game in which politicians' statements were read without the names being revealed, and we were supposed to guess which party the speaker belonged to, I could no longer tell the difference and so I knew it was time to leave.

Republicans are leaving the Republican party. Democrats are leaving the Democrat party. And neither party notices that anything is wrong.

The Republicans and the Democrats used to oppose one another, but now they're only two sides of the same coin. As Glenn Beck said, "The only difference between Republicans and Democrats is that one wants to take the country to Hell in a rocketship, while the other wants to take the country to Hell in a horse and buggy".

We must, must, MUST abandon the idea of Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal, us vs. them, and asking not, "will this help us defeat the other side", but "would our Founding Fathers recognize this principle".

And you would be very correct. If you ever want to make a liberal's head explode, just explain to them that JFK was a supply sider.

I don't have a link (although it shouldn't be too hard to find...after all, just about everything is on the internet now) but I recall Ted Kennedy railing against President Reagan's economic policies and stating that supply side economics was immoral and harmed the poor.

When someone (I think it was William F. Buckley, but I'm not sure) pointed out that his own brother's policies were nearly identical, Kennedy denied it and outright lied about his own brother's policies.

I'm only sorry that it took me so long to realize that George W. Bush was no conservative. By the time I realized it, it was too late. I had already voted for him.

Don't be so sure. While it's true that our society as a whole is rocketing to the left, more and more people are realizing that liberalism is not what they thought it was and are leaving.

If that's the case, what does that have to say about US- the voters who put them there?

Call me a sore loser if you like, BUT, considering all we've heard & read about re: "voting place shenanigans" etc., I'm not sure just how many voters, IN REALITY, put them there!!!

And when photo-voter ID is opposed as being "racists", then you know somebody (?) has a lot to hide. Any HONEST person(s) would welcome any "fact-check" as to voter eligibility as a God-send.
