Halloween

We will probably have a fire in the fire pit (I have to replace the bowl, now that I think of it) and have a few of my son's friends over. I don't like Halloween or trick-or-treating but hanging out with my family is something I look forward to. We may have candy since we will be outside for any kids that would come by.
Before Halloween I will be passing out some tracts but on Halloween probably working.
Go and order some good gospel tracts from TractPlanet.com as they have some real Halloween winners and they are attractive to read and pass out.
We will most likely be doing nothing. Maybe handing out some candy. My kids are of the age where they do not care for going out any more.
My wife and I live in a gated retirement (55 and over) community, so there are no kids in the community and no way for those outside to get in. Nice quiet evening.
As for our kids, our youngest is 41 and our oldest will be 51 in December. And even their kids are too old for "trick or treat." And no great grand kids yet. Did I mention "nice quiet evening?"

Wife's BD is the 29th. So having a BD/Halloween party on the 30th. Roasting marshmallows, carving/painting punkins, etc.
On the 31st will hand out candy and watch The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.

Why not include some Halloween oriented gospel tracts with the candy?
Nothing as I have to work. However I did attend the Denver Zombie festival and passed out 100 Halloween gospel tracts.
We live on a very rural road and have candy ready with porch lights on for any TrickOrTreaters who might show up.
However, in the 15 years we have lived at out present address not one has shown up not even grandkids.
But its true for just about everyone along our road. Maybe it's the gunfire on the weekends (we're only target practicing).
Also, one of my sons lived with us for a few years before he married and he had a Halloween type pet.
He had/has a pet wolf, it was renown in the neighborhood (he would howl when the coyotes started their yipping). He is 6 generations removed from his wild ancestors and a gentle creature but he is very large and very scary looking.

Yes it's illegal to own wolves, however my son's "dog" was legal because there was a German Shepherd in the canine lineage papers and he could be and was registered as a mixed breed.

I'll be at my church helping with our community Fall Festival. It's a place for families to come after they trick or treat or even in place of it. It's in our church gym and there's games, jumpy things (I don't know what you call them), cake walks, free hot dogs, chips, corn dogs, and brownies.
LOTS of potential converts and church members come. It's the biggest face-to-face interaction between our church members and the unchurched in our community that we do all year long as a large group. Hundreds are there.
We have a sign up table when you come in to get people's information. Then we fellowship and interact. I ALWAYS have at least two or three families that I don't know at the cake walk my SS class runs. In talking with them about small talk I always ask if they have a church home that the regularly attend. If they say no, I tell them that we would love to have them here and that they are welcome to all our services and if they even appear remotely interested - I try to introduce them to someone who would be in the Sunday School class would attend. And I always try to ask if our church can do anything for them.
Every Sunday School class is given the names of people to contact and to reach out to that would be in their age group. The out reach team also uses this information for their work.
I patently refuse to give out anti-Halloween tracts at our Fall Festival. It's the height of ironic absurdity to host a party with costumes, pumpkins, candy, hay rides, and all the trappings (except for super scary stuff) and then to force one of those Halloween-is-of-the-devil tracts on someone.
It's not a time - in my opinion - to talk about the devil or paganism in holidays. It's a time to get to know people personally, tell them about Christ, and to invite them to be a part of our fellowship.
There's time to get into the topic of the devil and theological treatises during Sunday School and during the preaching.
