We have a safe (and free) alternative which is open to the community. Children can dress up in a (non-scary) costume and enjoy game booths, candy, pony rides, face-painting, bungee jumping and a rock-climbing wall, along with burgers, hot dogs, etc.

We will be dancing in the oak grove by the light of the harvest moon as usual. Bonfire to follow.

We build a graveyard in our front yard, go trick r treating in creepy costumes, and then come back and discuss the biblical origins of sin and death over candy. It's a great time of year to discuss things rarely discussed in Church. It's also a good time to discuss the bad news of the Fall just before we celebrate the good news of Jesus at Christmas.

Used to skip halloween, but found it too valuable to ignore. If my kids don't understand the bad news (the fall of the first Adam), they likely will not fully grasp the good news (the coming of the last Adam).
