Happy Meals for good grades

MacDonalds paying for the printing cost for school report cards. In exchange, they put a coupon in for students who have all A's and B's or perfect attendence.

From what I read in the story, only one parent has complained.

Is this ideal good, bad or indifferent.

Could it be that "politically correct" people dont like this beacuse it actually rewards for achievement?

Thoughts?

From what I've seen of today's society, this could very well be the exact reason. "Little Jimmy might feel bad since he didn't make the grade, and his self-esteem is more important than achievement."

Could be also since it's becoming more PC to avoid "junk food", that this could be a reason! With the PC crowd, who knows what evil lurks in their tiny, shrivelled, rocky, little hearts??

They have been doing this in KY for several years now.
I hadn't heard of it, I don't think they do it locally.

Bad idea, you expect your child to do school work to the best of their ability, to learn, as a school student this is what is expected and should be expected. So kids get the idea they are to get goodies for doing good work, and if the goodies disappear, what happens with the school work, not doing well is not to their benefit, ever.
No one is rewarded for all the good they do, and it isn't really good work you've done if you expect rewards from people for it.
I think it furthers the ind set people are teaching kids now days, get, get, give me, give me, give me.
Not to mention making kids fat and unhealthy on more and more fast foods, they get enough of it as it is.

Yeah, we don't want to teach our kids that the harder they work, the more they get....

That is just sooo wrong....

Teach them they can get anything for nothing... that would be much better....

Gee, we offer $100 for A's and $50 for B's. I'd like to do the McTrash food thing myself, to save some money.

Yeah, let's dump the Coke machines at school and load the kids up with soft drinks, high fructose corn syrup, and transfats for doing a good job!

More marketing to kids by the folks at McDonalds.

My sister in law works in the local high school's cafeteria, and their food is top rate. Better than we can afford, and fully balanced, but along with the broccoli and cauliflower, are hamburgers and pizza, but amazingly the majority choose to eat good food. The vending machines have a variety of fruit juices, and water. It surprised me a bit. When we were there, we ate burgers, fries, chili burgers and hero's off campus, mostly, because the quality on campus was lousy. But that was back in the 'gasp' 60's.

or teach them they must be rewarded for everything they do, yeah, right, get real. Do you want good hard work for the sake of good work or for the purpose of seeking rewards, which is self centeredness. Are we taught biblically to seek rewards for doing good?

One happy meal per report card for one term of school work is not actually a reward for everything. Now, if they received a happy meal for an "A" or "B" on every school test and homework assignment ( that could amount to 5-20 per week) - that would be excessive.

Based on your statement, an employer should not give a bonus or other incentive for a job well done. We all enjoy getting something special for motivation. Lets just keep it in perspective.

If there is only one complaint so far, it's hard to see that PC'ers are in general that concerned about it. If they are, they need to be questioned as to whether they withhold children's allowance for not cleaning up their rooms, feeding pets. or whatever they have as assigned chores [and hopefully they do have those].

I don't know the range of this reward system or how long it's been in force, but it does seem more of the elements of PC would be heard from before it goes on too long... nutritionists, environmentalists ["__% of litter has been found to be from McDonald's"], vegetarians ["McDonald's sells __ fried cows for human consumption each year"], Democrats ["McDonald's does not locate in the 'poor' areas of a city in such numbers as in the middle class areas"], and perhaps some Orthodox ["McDonald's is not certified kosher (is it?), so students required by parents to be kosher do not benefit on account of religion"].

So kids get the idea they are to get goodies for doing good work, and if the goodies disappear, what happens with the school work, not doing well is not to their benefit, ever.

If you ever won anything-- trophy, certificate, just recognition-- for writing, athletics, debating, art,.... did you scrap all your efforts in this/these way(s) because the "goodies" were no longer there every time?
