Harry Kalas passed away suddenly

Our beloved Phillies broadcaster, Harry Kalas, passed away suddenly on Monday as he was preparing to call the game in DC against the Nationals. He has been the "Voice" of the Phillies for so long, that some young folks cannot remember the Phillies without him. He was also the recent "voice" of NFL films. He was an all-around great guy, and loved the players and the fans. Baseball in this town will never be the same. :tear: :tear: :tear:

This was sad news. He received many fine tributes in the media yesterday. His voice is irreplaceable.

To give him his due, recent would mean the last 34 years, as he started the voice work for NFL films in 1975. He'll be missed.

I still remember him starting around 1969 when he did Houston Astros radio; I think it was after 1970 that he left for the Phillies. But I always thought he had the best voice and steadiest demeanor of any broadcaster I heard.

Yeah, Debbie, this really was sad. I've been a pretty rabid Phillies' fan for more than thirty years.

It was a shock when Whitey died, just before a game, but this really is sad. I know it sounds cliched, but he was in our home so often via the radio, that he really did seem like a family friend.

I thought Larry Anderson gave him a terrific tribute.

I'll miss hearing him sing "High Hopes", but the best tribute of all is that, from now on, nobody will ever see a home run without thinking, "It's a long drive...watch that baby...It's outtaaa heeeerrrrreee".
