Harvard Poll: 80% of Voters say U.S. needs secure borders

Right. Which brings into question what the people have in mind. Without more questions about what they mean by secure, we don’t know.

Describing a barrier that would work is not as telling as asking what they are hoping to achieve. Stop drug smuggling? Stop sex trafficking? Stop child molestation by migrants? Stop the flow of gangs into the US? Stop illegals from taking jobs away from Americans? Stop illegals from draining the American economy of billions of dollars? Etc.

How the questions are framed will also make a big difference. If we could reduce ___________ by 90% would you be in favor?
I agree that the question that was asked does not provide much information certainly not that 80% of Americans want to build Trump's wall. Most here deny it but the Republicans and Democrats could really do something about immigration reform and border security if they worked together on this. I personally want secure borders. But Trump has so politicized this and every other issue that I don't see this happening. Actually this standoff goes way back before Trump. Republicans have absolutely refused to work with Democrats for the good of America. McConnell is the master at refusing to cooperate and lying to the American people.

True, according to the poll. Your denial doesn't change a thing.

That Harvard Harris poll didn’t find that 8 in 10 Americans want to “close down the borders.” Rather, it asked Americans, “Do you think we should have basically open borders or do you think we need secure borders?”

My answer is with the 80%. Yes, I think we need border security. That says nothing about whether I think Trump's plan will achieve it.

Obama & Dims had 8 years they could have corrected this problem that even they (Dims) said was "a problem", but didn't do squat.
To say Trump is at fault for "politicizing" this is, at the very best, a lack of critical thinking. I would personally say that the problem is that the Dims either:
1-are lying when they claim concern over the border problem, and/or
2-they are simply being obstructionists.
I opt for the AND choice!!

You're repeating yourself. Nobody cares what it didn't say. Like who cares if trench foot smells bad?

Democrats do not like the idea of a wall mainly because Trump wants it even though they were very much in favor of one until Trump agreed with them.

But They lie when they say walls aren't effective. At the very least, they speak out of ignorance, even though the experts charged with manning the border say walls work.

And they offer no alternatives that have been proven as effective as a wall.

It's all about the politics of hate. They hate Trump, so they refuse to secure the border.

The Republicans' only objective during Obama's presidency was to block everything he tried to do. Yes, the Democrats wanted to reform immigration and secure the borders. The Republicans did not cooperate. They were in control so did almost noithing.

I posted what the poll DID say. I wouldn't have to repeat myself if you could understand that simple sentence.

Here is one reason they opposed his administration and pet project:

We have to pass this bill so we can see what's in it.

My premium went from $17.00/month to $109.00/month!!
My doctor was changed 3 times against my will.
My plan was changed once.

Although I agree the RNC did NOTHING!

The POTUS certainly did plenty but even his own received him not, by one vote in one case.
