My apologies for incorrectly stating that Shelton Smith "started" the Nationwide Baptist Fellowship.

I think I would be correct in saying he supports the fellowship as he was listed as a speaker this past year. I think I am also correct that he will no longer moderate Southwide or attend Southwide because of their present stance. I think I am also correct that his differences with Southwide include (but are not necessarily limited to) association with Southern Baptists, contemporary music, and used of versions other than the KJV.

Why 1980? What happened then? Might be an interesting thread in itself.

 

Mexdeaf... One major thing that happened in 1980 was the Homegoing of Dr. Rice.

 

1980 was the year John R. Rice sickened in the spring and died in December. I think that was a pivotal year for the IFB movement in many ways, and I've had a number of IFB leaders and pastors tell me the same thing. Maybe I will start another thread on that, if anyone is interested, to avoid hijacking this thread.

 

Okay, makes sense. I had forgotten what year Dr. Ricre passed on to Glory. So what were the other pivotal points?

Is the Rice Reference Bible still available?

 

Alas, it is out of print. It was originally published by Thomas Nelson, then later printed by an IFB man whose name I can't remember. It now sells for over $1000 on the Internet when you can find it. I heard some time ago that it was going to be reprinted, but I can't verify this.

Does anyone know?

 

I put one on sale on eBay for $50 and sold it within an hour. I got mine at the Erie Book Store in Erie,PA. When I was last in there they still had a copy in bonded leather if you want to google them and get there number. I think it was Anchor Bible Concepts in Nashville, the same company that published the Classic Note Bible for Dr.Hyles that reprinted it. John, does Thomas Nelson,The Rice Family, or Sword of the Lord own the copyright to it?

Concerning copyrights, the Rice family owns the rights to Grandad's songs, and the Sword owns the copyright to all of John R. Rice's books.

Unlike most Christian authors, he poured all of his royalties back into the work. He used to say about that, "Millions of dollars have passed through these hands, but praise God, none of it stuck!"

 

I called and they did not have one in stock. Thanks for the info anyways. Wish I could find one of these.

 

OK. I bought mine the day Ronald Reagan died so its been a while.

 

According to friends who attend FRBC in Murfreesboro, and several other Sword supporting churches, they have indeed parted ways.

 

Who? FRBC and SotL? Or do you mean the SBF/BBF/WBF & SotL?
