I asked this question in another thread. I'll ask it again, here.
"Does anyone in this thread know who Sam Padilla is?"

The deafening silence is here getting louder. The qustion I just asked is related to the thread.
Second question: Does anyone here know who 'Star' is?

Guess I'll just let go of this thread, seeing the response to my post was ingorance and apathy. 'We don't know, and we don't care'.

May well not have anything to do with "ingorance and apathy. 'We don't know, and we don't care'."

I, for one, just checked in on the thread, haven't been all that active last few days.

Well in my Google, he is a marine, or he is someone at a university in Nebraska, or someone in a bid proccess in Sacramento, or one of many in over twelve pages of hits

Now, why don't you enlighten us uncaring folks that don't know who he is and are ignorant

'exscentric' If I offended you, somehow with this, it was not intended. If I bored you, you are probably not without company, as I've had some experience at that. Heh! Heh!
Good chuckle, Mexdeaf! And always nice to get a nibble from others.

'Star' is the name the Huodani/Waorani/'Auca' gave to Rachel Saint, sister of Nate Saint, and the missionary who led Dayuma to the Lord. She was an aunt of Steve Saint, and went and was a missionary, and lived with and ministered to the tribe until her death in 1988.

Sam Padilla? He was just a kid who came to Bible College where I was a student, back around 1971 or so from the Rain Forest of Ecuador. Step-son of somebody named Komi. Where I, (as well as many other students, I add) upon hearing that he would be arriving as a student, was envisioning someone about one step removed from the Stone Age, complete with only a 'loin cloth', I was surprised to meet a radio technician and competant photographer, who spoke four languages fluently, and quickly showed that he was one of the two or three best pool players among the several hundred students, and became a friend of mine, while I was a student there. He's a year or so younger than I am (57); he was brought to School by 'Star'; and he is or was a childhood friend of Steve Saint. I have seen a picture of the two together. I think I will see the movie, because of my past friendship and association with Sam, although I would wish that there was a different actor playing the role of Nate. Perhaps, considering Smellywood, with the numbers of homosexuals in the industry, one has a difficult time finding many reputable ones. I'll not judge that, save to say it is not my movie, and it would not be my choice for an actor. I asked before, "Where do you draw the line in the sand?" I don't know, exactly. I know where I draw some. Oh yeah! One more little bit about Sam Padilla- He is the son of Dayuma.

Not offended, just wondered why the board not responding to your questions makes them ignorant, uncaring, or apathetic. ;)

Not sure how your questions/experiences relate to the topic of a homosexual playing a saint.

You mentioned "Perhaps, considering Smellywood, with the numbers of homosexuals in the industry, one has a difficult time finding many reputable ones. I'll not judge that, save to say it is not my movie, and it would not be my choice for an actor."

Let's change that quote a bit and see if the logic carries through. Perhaps, considering Pornowood, with the numbers of pronographers in the industry, one has a difficult time finding many reputable ones. I'll not judge that, save to say it is not my movie, and it would not be my choice for an actor.

Would you also go watch a porn show? (Read that as a rhetorical question :)

You mentioned "I asked before, "Where do you draw the line in the sand?" I don't know, exactly. I know where I draw some."

I didn't remember seeing this, nor in going back through the thread did I see it, maybe my memory is more lacking than normal and my eyes are similar,
but I would draw the line before seeing the film, or supporting the film as some Christian organizations do. I would also be quite careful before watching any of this companies films.

Glad to see there are a few others besides me on here who know where to draw the line ahead of time.

It does make one wonder if the main actor was a porno star if some Christians would dismiss that, too. :(

Sam is the son of Dayuma. I actually believe the surname was taken from the landlord/planation where Dayuma and the father lived at that time. Dayuma, as a young girl, was kidnapped by the Quechua tribe and carried away, annd reared as a Quechua. I think she was 'married' to a Quechua, who was killed in the violence, and was a young widow, and taken in by this landlord, but I am not absolutely sure at this time. It has been nearly 35 years, and I never had the opportunity to meet Dayuma, although I did meet Rachel Saint. As a sidebar, I was just told yesterday that Elizabeth Eliot Gren is now very ill and frail. I cannot confirm this, but another of my friends seemed to have some knowledge. She had been previously a guest in churches he attended in Pennsylvania.

My memory is not what it was. I just looked some of this up online. Dayuma had fled, not was kidnaped, after some of her family was 'speared'. She ran away to the Quechua. Some of this is coming back to me, now, better than a bit ago. Signs of 'Old Timer's', I guess.

The End of the Spear movie is far from being what the christian movie that it is claimed to be. The screening showed that Christ was not mentioned once, nor the Gospel.

Here is a belated reply to something exscentric wrote back to me the other day. (I apologize, in that I ain't 'zackly got this quote thing figgered out yet, so I gotta' do it the only way I know how.)
I quote:
"Not offended, just wondered why the board not responding to your questions makes them ignorant, uncaring, or apathetic. [Wink] "
I must somewhat expand the response.
I did not ever think 'the board' was actually 'ignorant, uncaring, or apathetic'. First off, that is not my style. 'Name calling' is something I have less than little use for at any time. I have, even though I am a newbie, already made a couple of posts to that effect on other threads, as to this or 'guilt by association'. But I guess I did assume that everybody was familiar with the, unfortunatly too often true, joke about the Pastor and the deacon. For this exact joke, I will post it on the humor board now.
In His grace,
Ed
