Have you ran into this........

I ran into this at a wedding today that i was officiating...........

A lady walked up to me and asked me if I thought homosexuality was a sin. Now of course my answer was yes, she then proceeded to tell me that it wasn't, because the ppl she knows are too nice and she doesn't see how nice people could be sinners. Also that she believes the Bible but just not the part in Leviticus. I then explained to her that Romans 1:27 also condemns homosexuality. She then told me that Romans 1:27 isn't speaking against homosexuality.....Now the lady of whom I speak is in her late 60's so I wasn't really expecting this. I just wonder is it just me or do i always attract the ppl that want to oppose the obvious.

We then talked about what the final authority is on whats sin and whats not I told her the word of God is, she said when God tells her that homosexuality is a sin then she will believe. I asked her what she thought the Bible was she said it was written by man. I said written yes but inspired by God.......It goes on from there others joined in agree and disagreed. I stood and his word and will not waver. I could honestly feel a spiritual attack on me, I mean really feel it. Like a hand choking me trying to stop me from preaching to these ppl.

Anyone had these types of experience's ???

Yes. I refuse to debate what the Scriptures say with anyone who does not hold the infallibility of Scriptures in their origional autographs.

Now, if someone who doesn't believe in the infallibility, I will debate whether or not there are contradictions, but that's a different debate.

Don't engage in debate where the occasion does not allow for it. If someone started a debate, about anything, at my wedding, I should turf them out to the gutter.

These are (unfortunately) 'normal' experiences for all Christians. Not just pastors...

For the employee, stating the Bible Case emphatically can result in censure and termination...

I probley wouldn't of handeled it too well.....cuz I would of asked the lady to tell me in the creation where man and man were made for each other. Cause I recall that in the beginning God made Male and Female.... not male and male or female and female and told them to go forth and multiply. As far as I know no man has had a baby by natural means yet.

What you describe sure sounds like something was trying to stop you. Glad you got to speak the truth and hopefully plant some seeds in some of those people.

Hmmmm.

Dont the scriptures admonish us to "be ready" both "in season and out of season" to give a defense for the hope that is in us?

Once this woman approached Rev Lowery and asked these questions, as far as I am concerned it became, at the moment, the right "time and place" to share truth.

A wedding...so what? Why not at a wedding?

(As a matter of fact, I seem to recall Christ doing some "witnessing"

at a wedding, as well as working a miracle.

As Rev. Jim mentioned there are times and there are not times to engage in debate a wedding is not one of them. A wedding should be remembered as a happy and joyious occasion not a day when you got into a debate with someone.

But the woman was asking right then. Not a week later in his office at 2PM.

And I didnt read anything in the post to suggest anything was "ruined" or "interrupted".

The impression I got was that this was sometime during the day. Before the actual ceremony, after the ceremony, etc.

Nothing in the post suggests that, as an example, just before he asked the bride to say "I do"...suddenly this woman jumps in an interupts.

Nothing like that at all. The way it reads to me this was at some point when there is general "mingling" going on.

In situations like that...I believe if someone asks you a spiritual question, you recogise the door opening and you go through it right then...and share the truth of the scriptures.

If people around you dont like it...so be it.

If they will never have you "officiate" something again...so be it.

If you lose a friend...so be it.

I wanted to add something, but it was too late for me to edit. This is an adition to the post above.

There is a pretty good study course by a Baptist brother...I cant remember his name (DHK might know)...and the premise is that we need to be sensitive to recognising situations where God is already at work, and then joining Him in it...rather than taking the initiative to force things on people who arent ready to be helped.

There are lots of ways that this can play out, but one of the ways we recognise that God could be opening a door is...obviously...when someone asks us a question.

For this woman to come up to this brother...at a wedding, no less...to ask a theological/moral question, sure does tell me that something substantial is probably going on under the surface, and the opportunity to minister is RIGHT THEN, while the "spark is lit" as they say.

To just dismiss that woman by telling her "this isnt the time", or "Sure, we can talk about that, how about...let me check my calender...Friday at 1PM?", is just not the way to go, imo.

If it was me, at that moment that woman would become the most important person in the world to me...because God could very well have a seed planted in her, and she is now, meaning RIGHT NOW... ready to be watered.

To clear things up the lady asked this well after the reception most straglers had left and only the immediate family was left oh btw the lady is my 2nd cousin who has a nephew that is Homosexual. All this I found out later from my Dad. Also, I noticed that most ppl in general run from such disagreements and they never seem to agree with the person that is agreeing with the Bible. Or they take a neutral stance saying that no one really knows.......

Why do ppl think there is nothing absolute in this world....I mean sin is sin God cant over look sin Christ is the only way to Heaven if you know Christ you want practice Homosexuality.

Ohhhh and why is it that "Christians" have such a hard time standing there ground. Why is it so hard to say, "Jesus is your only hope turn to him, confess your sins, repent and know him as Lord and Savior." I know its not enough in most cases but still I mean come on, God saved you from eternal damnation and you dont have the nerve to say how, when, and why!!

Rev. Lowery, I believe you did the right thing and glad you loved the lady enough to tell her the hard truth. I pray that she will accept it, instead of making exscuses for her kid. The sad thing is when Jesus comes back and we stand before God she won't be able to speak for her child. Truth is truth and I pray that what you spoke to her hopefully will wake her up.
