Hearing impaired

I am going to make a presentation to my Church about the possibility and feasibility of installing a wireless transmitter along with making available a clip or bud to be used in our sanctuary to enhance the hearing for those of us who are impaired, and I would appreciate any information or suggestions from any of you who may be doing this or have had experience in this area. Thanks in advance.

I don't have any suggestions, but if there are hearing impaired people in your church (and I'm getting to that point, myself), installing such a transmitter is so relatively inexpensive I can't see why they wouldn't.

Or maybe your church could hire Garrett Morris to stand behind your preacher and translate. It worked for Chevy Chase.

Either way, good luck in your presentation.

Now this is interesting. If I get some time over the next few days, I'll start doing some research; but in the meantime, I'm extremely interested in seeing what folks post about this.

We have that system and it's been great. We have over the ear headphones that people can pick up at the sound booth on their way into church and they say it helps a lot. I don't have the info with me right now because I'm home but I'll be working in the sound booth tomorrow if you want me to get more info on what system we have. I'm sure ours is older so not necessarily what you want but I can get more info then. If you want to e-mail me tomorrow to be sure I remember this, you can e-mail me at ann at ichristianc dot org. :)

Years ago we placed car speakers in the hymnal area of two rows and ran a line from the amp to a small amp and set the volume to a level the older folks could hear at. It did not seem to bother the rows around, however the hearing impaired were limited to those two rows.

An antenna system would certainly be better. It might be encouraged for the people to buy their own earphones or guarantee a good cleaning after each use. :)

I'd look into bluetooth to see if the range is good enough.

We had a system years ago. There was a sign in the foyer and a comment in the bulletin that ran for years about the availability. No one would use it, yet they still complained about not being able to hear. There was an issue with the sound system, but a tech came out and balanced it out for the sound to fill the whole room. They still complain. Now if they wouldn't sit on the back row....

We have just such a system. It works with small portable FM receivers or through cell phone FM apps. I'll get some information on what our system is and forward it to you here.

A sincere thanks for all correspondence and I await your follow ups. I tried tuning in on radio frequency and it didn't' work because of delay.

Since I don't know anything about it and no one was here to ask about it, I figured I'd take pics. :) The last picture is what I believe we give people and then a set of headphones (I think they can now use earbuds as well if they prefer). I also see it needs a dusting!! LOL

That's the same system we have, more or less. Works the same way. Somehow ours also works with cell phone FM apps, but I don't know how those work because I only listen to KLOVE on iHeart Radio, so I don't need an FM app. The system is relatively inexpensive, though I'm not talking discount store pricing either.
