Souls can and do DIE - Eziekel 18: 4, 20

    that's because souls have nothing to do with immortality.

    </font>
Well you are right. The soul dies and that means that we are not immortal.

    However - in Matt 10 Christ makes it clear that the soul does not die in the first death. He is very clear - that only God can kill the soul.

    He is also clear as to where this death takes place.

    Those who suggest that having your physical body AND your soul "destroyed" in fiery hell is the way to "get eternal life" -- have never read that in scripture.

    Like, people burning in hell and never burning up, when the Bible says the wicked shall be ashes under our feet (Malachi 4:3 / Matt 3:12). </font>
I think we agree on that -- but I am surprised to find agreement there.

    As much the child of hell metaphore Christ uses is not the same thing as "someone that has been cast into the lake of fire" as we see in Rev 20 and 21 NOR is it the statement that the living Jews of Christ day were living in hell.

    There is no way to get this scripture bent around in that direction.

    Where do you get that information? From Rev 20? Rev 21? How about Rev 14:10?

    Now THAT is a fascinating statement. Christ said BOTH the physical body AND the soul "are destroyed" in fiery hell. But you claim that the souls "are NOT destroyed" there.

    The two positions are contrasted well at that point.

    BobRyan,

    Matt 10:28 ""Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

    first the audience. the scripture is speaking to the carnal man. the carnal mindset, and the carnal body.

    all of which will be destroyed by entering into death with Christ. the soul of the individual will be resurrected without the carnal works, or the deeds of the carnal life.
    the soul will be transformed or renewed having the old mans nature burned away. killing the soul is a metaphore for killing the "nature" of the soul.
    the very reason for existing. is to fulfill the nature of the carnal self.

    God kills the selfish nature by subjecting it to the buffeting of satan (hell).
    God kills the selfish nature by chastening it with grace.
    God kills the selfish nature by subjecting it to life within the lake of fire (that is "the elect")

    If anyone accepts the free gift of impartial Grace. expect the carnal nature within the soul to be destroyed. to be "In christed" means to have all forms of vanity and selfishness within the soul destroyed.

    yet the soul will continue to exist. not that it was created immortal.
    but the propitiation of Gods lamb covered over the sin of every soul. the eventual joining of every soul with the spirit of Christ makes every soul immortal.

    Nope.

    The scripture shows us Christ speaking to His own disciples as He prepares to send them out as evangelists on their first solo missionary project.

    Christ argues that in their journey they should not fear the persecution they would face for Christ at the hands of wicked men. Men that "can kill the body but NOT the soul".

    Then Christ contrasts that with God who DESTROYS BOTH body AND soul in fiery hell.

    However "you" say that God does NOT DESTROY the soul in hell.

    A more direct contradiction could not be asked for.

    There is just no way to wiggle out of this problem for universalists.

    In Christ,

    Bob

    </font>
It would have to have wide group of people because if Christ was speaking only to Christians He would have not need to talk about "destroy both soul and body in hell"
