Whats your view on Hell and why? As for me I interpret the Bible literally and take Hell the way it is. I do not believe in a conditional Hell because the Bible does not teach this. But needless many have written big books defending their view. What say you?

Many don't realize that hades/sheol is a transition place that will be cast into Gehenna - the lake of fire. Both hades/sheol are translated "hell" but neither is the eternal lake of fire.

I believe that there is a literal place sinners go to for all eternity called hell, or the lake of Fire, and do not just get roasted and destroyed when cast there, but do not hold to the literalness of the descriptions of it, as them being roasted over a furnance/fire pit, but as vivid imagery that seeks to tell us how aweful it will be shut off from the presence of god forever...

I do not think anyone has a clue about what is meant by being a conditionalist.

A conditionalist is someone who suffers from too much systematic theology.

Jesus paid it all--a little child can understand.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

A conditionalist is someone who thinks you make holy water by boiling the hell out of it. :)

A conditionalist is someone who actually knows what he believes. :)

A conditionalist is someone who believes God can destroy both the body and the soul in Gehenna. :)

Even though Jesus said that they would live forever?

Yeshua1, where did Jesus say "they" would live forever?

My view is supported by Matthew 10:28.

Revelation, as the beast and false prophet go off into final judgement and hellfire, and will be there for all eternity!

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28 NASB)

A conditionalist is someone who believes God can destroy both the body and the soul in Gehenna.

Destruction in that sense is NOT though a ceasing of being alive, becoming non existent, but to be "ruined" as away from presence of God for all eternity!

This is a common assertion made by those claiming God cannot kill, destroy, terminate and end forever the existence of human beings. It is mistaken doctrine having no basis in scripture.

The idea of Matthew 10:28 is that men can kill the body but not the soul, however, God can kill both the body and the soul. Any other interpretation is ends driven manipulation because the meaning is obvious.

Hi Rolf, as far as I can tell, no one except me, posting of this thread has a clue as to what a conditionalist believes. At issue is the traditional belief that once a sinner is thrown into the lake of fire, he or she undergoes eternal conscience torment, versus those who say once God's perfect justice is satisfied, the person's conscience awareness ends, their body and soul being destroyed (killed.)

The key verse in this debate is Revelation 14:11, ""And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

It is easy to see why the traditional view arose, seemingly the smoke rising forever and ever points to ongoing torment forever and ever. But another option is that the smoke rising forever and ever simply indicates the eternal consequence of being tormented in the lake of fire, eternal separation from God.

Here is my opinion:

Mark 9:44-48King James Version (KJV)

44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenche

Why is the meaning that obvious?
Why must the English word "destruction" demand the SDA meaning of "annihilation"? Do you believe there may be other alternatives to the definition of this word?
