The word Hell doesnt mean just 1 thing in sciptures.

it has different renderings of the word.

Hades and Sheol (Grave)
Gehenna(Jerusalem's garbage dump-a valley outside jerusalem that burned with fire night and day in the time of Christ--animals and humans were thrown in this fire-and this was a PLACE on EARTH-NOT afterlife.
History records in the jewish-roman war in the late ad60's or maybe even in ad 70(cant remember exactly) that the Romans took 600k or more jews and cast them into that same valley of gehenna and they burned to death!!

Tartaros(torment place that wasnt on the earth))the only time this rendering was used was Peter's and Jude's account of the same 200 angels called watchers from the book of enoch that came down and co-mingled with women(that bore their children)
now this event is highly specualted not even happening.

Now the apostles knew the renderings of all the forms of the word of Hell.

But not but 1 time was the Hell rendering afterlife torment was mentioned and that was to the fallen angels not mankind(which could not have actually happened anyway?)

now what do YOU think about the rendering of this word and the contexts its in in the bible

I might be a bit dense this morning (part of not having enough coffee) but are you saying (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that Hell is not a place for individuals to go to when they die and are not believers?

In other words, that Hell is not final, everlasting dwelling place for individuals following this life?

Just curious, again this could be because my coffee uptake is a little slow this morning.

I agree.

There is a sense in which there is no point in debating on this site for these reasons:

#1- It is too easy to get away with the most blatant logical fallacies.

#2- It is too easy to filibuster while shrugging off questions and challenges that scrutinize your points. This also manifests itself in being the one who is always asking questions keeping your opponent on the defensive and hardly, if at all, answering questions put to you.

#3- It is way too easy to drive-by post. In other words to post some snarky remark as an insult to a member and not make an argument yourself which can be scrutinized; to pop in, insult and run.

If I take a particular stand my stance can be scrutinized by you. But if I want to show you that your stance is no more sound than mine, I cannot do that because you have not revealed yours.

I was between college teams a few years ago. I had been an Ole Miss fan but got disgusted with the program.

My friends were Bama fans. I tormented them by constantly criticizing Bama.

But they could not say- "Hey your team has weaknesses too!"

That made me a jerk to criticize their team when I had no team to criticize in turn.

Debate requires two positions. Both are to e presented and both are to be scrutinized. There is no debate without it.

I have given you scripture that shows the great white throne judgement that says death and hell delivered up the dead in them, as hell now is like a holding cell, say in a city where the convict waits until the final sentence and then is sent to state prison. The final judgement happens and the people that were in hell are cast into the lake of fire. You are a real piece of work, pal, always whining no one is giving you scripture and NEVER giving scripture that refutes the great white throne. When I was in the Navy, we had a plan for people like you, but since I am saved now, I won't repeat it.

so you say the lake of fire is hell--question for you-if that is hell is the presence of God there ?

Had a plan for people huh--no mercy involved there my friend--thats the attitude of folks who think that God will Fry and Sizzle folks for ever--since they themselves are saved--the rest of the bunch can just suffer torment for ever heh ? that is if they dont agree with you ?

Jesus Himself clearly stated to us that there is a place of eternal torment, where the sinners go to experience eternal seperation from God, call it Lake of Fire/Second death/hell its still there and lasts as long as heaven does!
