1) There are very interesting topics brought up in the Baptist only forums, Are these kinds of topics discouraged in forums open to all?
I'm not aware that they are, so ask away.
2) I can't really identify as a Baptist at this time, because I'm still coming to understand what various denominations believe. I trust the Bible as the inspired word of God and as such having the final say over anything written outside of the Bible. I still want to learn about the Baptist faith though. So often these days when visiting a church the beliefs of the church are rarely discussed other than perhaps major concepts.
At this point I'd say, "Study the Bible as much as possible and decide for yourself where you stand" .
Don't concentrate on specifically studying any one "faith", as to me, there is only one...
But we as believers should not define ourselves by what others pin on us as a name, we should identify with who we are:
God's children by His grace and through the faith of Jesus Christ.
For example, believers were first called "Christians" at Antioch.
That was a name that was bestowed upon them by those outside of the faith, not within it.
But before that, all that they knew was that they believed on Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, or basically this:
1 Corinthians 15:1-7.
"Baptist" is also a name that was bestowed upon a people holding certain beliefs, by those who did not.
Today there are many different kinds of "Baptist", but that was not always the case.
May God bless you richly in your studies and in your time here.
