The new pastor emphasizes everything from spiritual growth, Bible study, prayer, and outreach. Correcting sin was necessary because we are getting nasty comments about our church being lenient on sinners. It's like house cleaning in progress. The former pastor was powerless in handling such difficult issues.
We are a pretty young church so no one is really qualified to be an elder, other than the pastor.
If I may speak from experience, this pastor needs people to stand with him. If he gets too "lofty" he will only run good people off and thereby get a reputation for being a tyrant and the outreach will not matter, I've already left the church that had such a pastor and knew he was wrong, his family not right, and then a month later he had an affair.
A pastor is just that, a pastor: one who leads a flock, maintains the sheepfold by leadership, not by lordship over God's heritage.
It is hard to speak without being there personally in your specific case. Learn to stand with the man of God, and for best advice, stop being the "go-between" you're liable to get shot in the crossfire.
Stand for what you know is Bible, it may hurt, but people will leave due to their carnality, but it is never advisable to separate the tares from the wheat because some of the wheat will get torn up with the tares. Let the lord take the tares out, teach the carnal to be spiritaul and mature, grow the babes into sound doctrine soldiers for Christ!
