Had he lived, he may have changed some, but at the time of the War, he would be called a racist today. Whites would always be at the top.

I presume that they would know.
Yet, he said the races could not live together or be equal.

This Black would not agree with the those who knew him, which I suspect was very few. He did not want the races mingled so I doubt he mingled with many of them. Also, much about him was written by people who wanted to protect his legacy or to enhance their own politics.
