It wouldn't matter one bit. Vice President Gore had many more votes in 2000 than the governor of Texas, but look who is sitting in the Oval Office. It isn't popular vote that matters, it is the votes of the members of the Electoral College. </font>[/QUOTE]That is quite debatable, as the counted votes favored Bush by about 100,000. But, some states don't count absentee ballots unless they can change the outcome. Most absentee ballots come from military personnel.

The FEC gives different numbers, but still has Gore ahead by about 550,000, so you are correct on that point. ( Official 2000 election count)

However, with more than 1 million uncounted absentee ballots, and with absentee ballots going overwhelmingly for Bush, I think the numbers would have put them both at about 48.5% of the vote.

But, either way, despite Clinton being elected to two terms, I'm thankful that we have a representative republic than a true democracy. If we were a true democracy, the five largest cities (not states) could control the entire nation.

(Actually, I'm glad that Clinton was reelected: Dole was sorry, and it galvanized those who wanted better.)

President George W. Bush and the current administration have now borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 U.S. presidents combined.

Throughout the first 224 years (1776-2000) of our nation’s history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions according to the U.S. Treasury Department. In the past four years alone (2001-2005), the Bush Administration has borrowed a staggering $1.05 trillion.

Now that they have raised the debt limit for the fourth time since Bush took office last month, the total ammount borrowed by this administration is much higher that the total stated in the press release, and it will only continue to increase.
