Also keep in mind that it is the rich business owners who provide jobs for the middle class and the poor. Also keep in mind that class envy is not a Biblical value. As a matter of fact, the Bible teaches the exact opposite. Again, liberalism is not about what is good for the nation, rich or poor. It is about what is good for the government which is fat off the backs of the rich and poor taxpayers. They divide the nation into the haves and the have nots. Punish the haves, which in turn makes the have nots happy while they lose their jobs and see their value of living go down. This is not good for the rich or the poor. It is wonderful for the government who gets to step in and offer more government benefits, which in turn makes the poor slaves of the state, increases the tax burden of the middle class and the rich, thus enslaving them to the state, and guarantees job security and greater power over the masses. Modern day Liberalism is a softer version of communism and is tyranical in its oppression of the human spirit.

As a low income family, this wage hike would not help us at all. (we = my dh, supporting our family with 1 job)
We live on 1 income of roughly $19,000 a year (net).
We ask for and receive no government aid for day to day living expenses, food, ins, ect.. Now when we were living on less than $7.50 an hour and had 2 little boys to raise, we did. We were making $5.50 an hour, living in CA. (we had worked for a union in Rockwell, making the shuttle, ultimately the unions demands cost my dh his job) We lived off our savings as long as we could, and then the job he finally found paid less than his unemployment. I had no job skills that would even cover the cost of after school care for one son let alone full time for the other. We moved to TX (best thing we ever did) and got aid for a few months. Of course when the income hit $7.50, the gov said we could not get the ins we needed, but they would give us $30 a month in food stamps... I could make that 3 times over a week babysitting, so I did.
I have seen and lived among low income folks who have no desire to work harder, because "the gov gives me" this or that. One lady was certified as a postal worker, but would not take the job because her welfare benefits paid more. She stayed home with her 5 kids and one on the way with her shade tree mechanic boyfriend (marriage somehow would have cut her benefits).
We are still low income, I do not work, but we make due on our own by God's grace. This wage hike really won't help us at all, it might even hurt my son, who depends on grants and student loans based on income to get the education people demand now to hire for a decent job.
I am an independent, though being a conservative, values driven woman, i do tend to vote Republican on 9 races and issues out of 10.
My fear is, this hike, will drive folks like the man who owns the toy stores my son works for out of business. He is not a millionaire, he is just like me, drives his vehicle till it dies to avoid payments, works hard, makes more, but his whole family works the business, so if this passes and he can't afford it, that is 15 people (his family plus employees) out of jobs, mostly students who need to suplement their grants and loans (working part time so they have time to study), and moms who need to supplement their dh's pay (working school hours because they can't afford a job that will pay for after school care).
This is the outlook of a one job, one car, tiny house, family of 5, who does not want to get the gov involved in our lives. We WANT to do it ourselves, but this hike might hurt those of us just starting out. DH and I are approaching retirement, in another 20 or so years and are finally beginning to be able to save for it. If the company he works for has to lay folks off to pay $7 to folks they normally hire and train at $6, we will be in huge trouble, maybe not right now, but down the line. The other flip of that is, they may quit hiring folks and training them, and only hire experienced people, or just give more over time to those they have to get the work out. Which means more guys new to the area, or just begining won't have those jobs.
Right now unemployment is at an all time low, that IS a good thing, so the system works. It is not perfect, but having more folks employeed than not is a good thing. They need to let it alone before they break it, we have more and bigger issues to handle than fixing something that works, even if its not perfect.

I would like to see the list of companies that actually pay out minimum wage. and then see the percentage of the employees that recieve that wage. Who is it that is actually trying to live of 5.25 an hour.

Even micky dees pays above minimum wage 7 to 8 dollars an hour. This will effect nothing. Except it gives the libs some whootin ground.

"Look what we did for the American people!" "We gave you a wage that you already make more than!" So vote for us becasue we are looking out for you! Whoo boy!"

It just politics with no substance. All fluff.
