Hostility

Although I have enjoyed, for the most part, reading the threads on the atonement, I must say that I have been astonished and distressed at the hostility and attacks against JonC and agedman for holding the original view of the atonement. I have encountered such hostility on other forums, denominational and inter-denominational, and it always saddens me. To see such words as "ungodly" and heretic" thrown around makes me despairing of ever becoming Baptist while holding to my atonement views. Now I know that Jon and agedman basically hold the views I do, and they are Baptist, but I don't see how they remain so. I know Baptists maintain freedom of conscience, but it must be distressing being in a distinctly small minority on atonement views.

There is a Biblical atonement.
It is seen in Romans 6:23 with Romans 5:8. From this I originally understood Christ having died for me, in 1962, to be lead to Christ. [The resurrection in Romans 10:9.]

You are only half correct. The hostility has gone both ways.

It would be much better to discuss all issues of doctrine and faith in a manner worthy of our profession of faith. However, passions run high and we are still in the flesh.

peace to you

Yes, we have this treasure in earthen vessels.

You say the hostility has gone both ways. I did not see Jon or agedman calling their opponents heretics or ungodly, unless I missed it.
