Anyone following the events in the Korean region. This is getting worrisome, North Korea is increasingly desperate with general famine looming....what have they got to lose, when desperate folks are backed into a corner....I understand that North Korea has the largest standing army in the world.

Hello BG,

Anyone following the events in the Korean region. This is getting worrisome, North Korea is increasingly desperate with general famine looming....what have they got to lose, when desperate folks are backed into a corner....I understand that North Korea has the largest standing army in the world.

I understand that South Korea has the largest population of Christians per capita (at least it did several years ago) of any nation in the world.

Think of the praying that is going on there now.

While I am not a big fan of Obama, he has taken a more traditional response (American) on this matter of aggression on the part of the N. Koreans, as he did concerning the pirate situation.

This may be media hype.

But I am trusting God that He will preserve those in S.K. until the appointed time when His wrath will fall on the ungodly.

Try not to worry overmuch about things until they happen.

They say that 90% of what we worry about never happens, and the things that do happen...we never see coming anyway.

God bless.

Certainly North Korea has focused its entire economy to do only one thing "well" even if it means starving it's population to death. And the one thing - is the ability to make war with its neighbors.

But God allows us to see the rumbling in the distance - so that we will press close to Him in prayer and in repenting from rebellion.

The Bible urges the saints to persevere firm until the end. We need to pray for the salvation of the people of North Korea and protection and salvation for those in South Korea.

in Christ,

Bob

"Hotting up" is a very English way of saying something. However, my view on this is as follows. South Korea (by looking at its entertainment and cultural aspects) want unification after their way of doing things. North Korea is stuck in the past and barely surviving. I'm not certain why Pyongyang had one of their subs shoot down the South Korean ship except to up the "anti" for negotiations for food which. Saying basically, you need to come to the table (to the US the bread basket of the world) and negotiate more food for us so we won't go to war. South Korea is chomping at the bit to re-engage the North in a battle to end it once and for all. After all they have better equipment and supplies that the North would not last long in an engagement. Especially when you conisder women are fleeing to rural china to marry men so that they can eat. There is another factor with the North I'm confused about but I'll leave that to speculation. China is the big dog in this. N. Korea may see China as being progressive with their building of infrastructure and marginal capital economic growth. Maybe they suppose China will be guarded about the North. However, I'm not certain China will be that guarded. It could be a real problem if it errupts.

And fight right down to the last American? Let them fight as long as the US has no boots on the ground or in their air space.

If the north was serious they could level Seoul in 30 seconds.

Not with their outdated equipment. They could still inflict a great deal of damage to Seoul in a matter of hours.

It is in the best interest of China for North Korea not to war against South Korea. China does not want any destabilization on the peninsula.

Most likely nothing will happen.

Agreed. Although this looks more serious than some other provocations of the past by North Korea.

You couldn't be more wrong.

North Korea's regime did it for the sake of revenge. Last year South Korea downed one of their ships -- but only a few N.K. sailors were killed.

It's a regular cycle for North Korea to do provocative things. This latest act is much more serious than other things they have done in the past though.

They do want food and other aid from the world -- especially America and South Korea. They want to be considered a major player on the world scene. The regime wants everyone to notice them -- and to be seen as dangerous.

Also the third son of the current leader is due to take over the reins of "government" sometime soon.

You speak out of pure ignorance here. You have absolutely no clue. If your statement wasn't so seriously crazy I'd be laughing. Please resist the temptation to say zany things like you have.

I could be wrong. But didn't I start the passage saying this was what I thought? I can only get the bead on what SKorea is thinking by the entertainment and published items that I can get in the States and there is a lot pointing to a desire for unification. I don't live in S. Korea so I really don't know but I can say what I think. Also from what I read in the news it does seem like S. Korea is itching for a fight but then again it could all be hype. Again I didn't know about S. Korea sinking a N. Korean Ship last year as there wasn't that much publicity. But Aren't I allowed to express my views even if they are wrong? And If I am wrong then shouldn't someone correct me by explaining how things actually are rather than just suppose I'm trying to be Zanny?

I could be wrong.

That's a fundamental point.

I don't live in S. Korea so I really don't know

Yes. Now you are using some common sense.

That's a load of garbage. What news sources spew that filth?

Think some factors through for yourself. If the Blue House was "itching for a fight" with North Korea -- wouldn't they want some major help from America and other allies? Why would any country be willing to engage in that kind of nonsense? Why would this nation be itching for a fight? Do you actually think that S.K. is preparing for another Korean War? Have you thought through the implications of that?

The current President,Mr. Lee, is conservative compared to the last few presidents. But he in no way relishes war with the northern neighbor.

If you did a survey of a million citizens here 1 or 2 would agree with your zany news stories.

Wow you're pretty hostile. I don't know why. I just put forth an opinion I had based on the information I've given you. Admittedly, I can be wrong and I differ to anyone with more information. It could be you say, Gee your wrong because of such and such and since I don't know I would agree. However, in this case you are very hostile. Of course I know the implications of that. Just like I know the implications of Iran launching a nuke towards Israel. Just like I know the implications if a talaban backed government took over Pakistan. But what did I say to warrent your anger? Just tell me I'm wrong give me the reasons and move on. Why get nasty unless you get some satisfaction. Things I know to be true I won't budge on. Things I don't know to be true I gladly give way to a better perception.

BTW I was listening to NPR this morning and it seems I may not have been as far off as Rippon suggest especially regarding the South and its anger towards the North. Itching for a fight maybe over done however they want some reprocussions and business as usual doesn't seem to suit them well. It is a tenious situation that may errupt especially if the north does something stupid.
Note according to NPR our analyst are also not as familiar with N korea (as probably Rippon is) and are pretty much guessing as well. According to one reported the Youth (where I think the entertainment is directed) is angrier at his incident then they have been at anything else. A few bad plays can lead to my Zanny senario.

I read an article in the Washington Post by Anthony Faiola who also suggest that the south koreans want unification on their terms. Another article by Selig S. Harrison, director of the Asia Program at the Center for International Policy, also supports my view. As I begin to study I'm finding out Rippon I'm not so far off. And suddenly I'm not so Zanny. So what's your problem?

Anger is appropriate when 46 South Korean sailors were killed. What did you expect -- "Aw, forget about." Let bygones be bygones."

Overdone is right. Your whole previous premise was based on silliness.

It is indeed a tense situation. And of course things can't be handled as it was before. (It was never good in the first place.)

Note according to NPR our analyst are also not as familiar with N korea (as probably Rippon is) and are pretty much guessing as well.

Thanks for the acknowledgement.

I can't make sense of the above.
