House punts on border bill, but wait ... there's a flag on the play

Fox News; Not over yet? Border crisis bill in limbo as Republicans huddlehttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...rt-circuit-obama-executive-action-on-illegal/http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...rt-circuit-obama-executive-action-on-illegal/

A dramatic scene was unfolding on Capitol Hill on Thursday as House Republican leaders left open the possibility that the chamber could still vote on a border crisis bill -- just moments after punting on the legislation and sending lawmakers home.

Earlier in the afternoon, House leaders abandoned the bill after failing to round up enough votes for it. Lawmakers then began heading out for the five-week summer recess.

But incoming House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., then unexpectedly took to the floor to say "additional votes are possible," indicating lawmakers should stay. Boos could be heard in the House chamber as he made the announcement.

Republican lawmakers apparently plan to meet, amid concerns from members about the prospect of leaving for the August recess without addressing the border bill and criticism from both sides of the aisle. It remains unclear whether there's any chance enough votes can be rounded up to pass the measure.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., told Fox News that he was at the airport when his secretary told him to return to Capitol Hill.

Asked if the bill still has a chance, he said: "We'll see."
Something -- anything, almost -- is better than letting the Democrats say they fled Washington without dealing with the issue.

To heck with the fact they, nor their president, have dealt with it either. You know how the majority of the media will spin it.

TODAY'S UPDATE:
Fox News: House Republicans draft a new bill that the Senate is likely to ignorehttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...-version-border-bill-in-bid-to-break-impasse/http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...-version-border-bill-in-bid-to-break-impasse/

House Republican leaders, a day after failing to get a vote on their border crisis bill, are scrambling to piece together a new version before lawmakers break for the August recess -- even though there's little chance of any bill getting to President Obama's desk in the near-term.

Sources say the Republicans' new version of the bill adds additional funding for the National Guard and includes additional restrictions aimed at preventing Obama from passing executive orders giving a reprieve to new groups of illegal immigrants.

The new measure's price tag is said to be $694 million, up from $659 million -- but still one-fifth of the $3.7 billion Obama requested, and a far cry from what the Senate considered.
I think they should pass a bill and leave it on Reid's doorstep, then bludgeon him with it the entire five weeks' recess.

And here's the latest "pen and phone" threat from the fundraiser-in-chief:
Fox News: Obama warns Republicans he may act on his own to address immigrationhttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/08/01/obama-to-speak-from-white-house-friday-afternoon/http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/08/01/obama-to-speak-from-white-house-friday-afternoon/

President Obama warned Friday that he may act on his own to address immigration challenges along the southern border, as Congress prepared to leave for the August recess without sending a bill to his desk.

The House continues to work on passing some version of legislation to address the border crisis, but the Senate already has adjourned without passing a bill and has no votes scheduled until September.

"I'm going to have to make some tough choices to meet the challenge, with or without the Congress," Obama said Friday, speaking to reporters in the the White House briefing room.

He later added: "I'm going to have to act alone, because we don't have enough resources."
Resources for what? Passing legislation? There are plenty of resources. The problem is, Harry Reid eats House bills for breakfast and they never see the light of day.

The House needs to get that bill passed today, and leave it for Reid. Then it can give him and the Democrats indigestion.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid anymore that ANYTHING this congress (read "moderate" Rs) does is gonna be for show only, and specifically will not do squat that will in any way truly nail the Ds hide to the I wall.:BangHead:

Probably.

But it doesn't really matter what they do. The president will not honor it.

He's already shown he's going to do whatever he wants to do no matter what the law is.

"Immigration challenges." That is an interesting wording. We are currently experiencing immigration challenges. Nice. It adds an air of legality. There are immigrants, and the United States is facing challenges in handling the process. I see what they did there. Displaces any guilt or blame and focuses on making the dispute between Americans. Brilliant writing. Great move to get what is wanted. Political gaming at its finest. If ya can't tell, I am impressed! Disgusted, naturally, but you have to admit this is being well played.
