Houston drops controversial pastor subpoenas

The mayor of Houston announced Wednesday that the city will withdraw subpoenas of sermons from five pastors who publicly opposed an ordinance banning discrimination against gay and transgender residents, The Houston Chronicle reports.

"I didn't do this to satisfy them," Mayor Annise Parker said in reference to critics of the subpoenas. "I did it because it was not serving Houston."

Yes , but not really. I believe what she intends to do is reissue the subpoens, changing the word "sermons" to "speeches".

The mayor of Houston is one hardheaded idiot. :BangHead:

Well, that's easy. They don't have any speeches to turn over, because they preached sermons.

Now, if she actually uses the word "speech," ya think the ACLU will get involved?

This might be one of those very few cases they would be interested in that could be considered a "conservative" cause. They take one every now and then, just to prove they're not always beating up on freedom of religion.
