How a Real Governor Handle an Approaching Storm

Rick is Republican.
He was our county Ag Commissioner for years.
Imagine what he could do if he was a Senator.

On a more serious note.
Ten years ago Tropical Storm Allison stalled over Houston, and did a few billions dollars worth of damage.
Houston has 1.9 million people in the main city proper, but the "Houston Metroplex" has 5.2 million people in it. Galveston has a little over 60,000 people in it.
Houston is a major refinery city, and a major shipping yard. It also has M.D. Anderson and the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical facility in the state.
Baylor's College of Medicine is in Houston too. (Remember the first artificial heart?)
Most of the DNA and Mylan Sheath research for Neuro Muscular Disease and Leukemia comes out of Houston.
NASA is down there.
Contiental airlines headquarters is down there.
Huntsville prison is down there.
It is a given that places like Sugarland and Pearland will flood. I figure Baytown will too.
They need a lot of prayers. No matter how good Rick is, we can't evacuate 5.2 million people, so we need to pray there is no need to evacuate them.

I'm curious-- has anyone heard his named mentioned for the Republican nomination. Am curious if he is a conservative or not, though.

He is a conservative.
He isn't ready to run for President. Not nearly enough contacts or experience.
Last chatter I heard was that Kay might run against him for Governor, or that he and Kay might try to switch seats with her leaving the senate to become governor and him moving up.
I've also heard that isn't going to happen.

Floridians and Texans should be proud of their Governors and state governments.
I think about Florida weathering four hurricanes last year with very litte fanfare after it was all over. They were left to recover pretty much by themselves although I know there was some federal aid. I went through Pensacola last week and there is still debris and damage evident everywhere.
The Governor of Texas has presented himself very well from the news conferences I've seen him on. I'm glad everyone in Texas learned from Katrina.

I heard the director of MD Anderson on the news this afternoon. They've got a pretty comprehensive plan too. (Not a governor I know, but still impressive.)

I notice that there is not much, if any, news about looting in Texas. I guess that, in a state where you are allowed to use force to defend your property, looters don't like to take the chance they might be shot in the midst of their commission of a crime.
Go Texas.
A "real Governor" would understand that, while it is good news that the Port Arthur refineries are not severely damaged, if no one can live in the cities of Port Arthur, Groves, Bridge City, Nederland, Port Neches, Port Acres, Beaumont, etc., then there won't be much oil refining going on at the refineries.
Perhaps he's getting his information and perspective from the national media who seems to think that Hurricane Rita's primary damage was to Galveston and New Orleans.
Full disclosure: I am nearly a straight-ticket Republican, but I've always been completely underwhelmed by Rick Perry. I believe that he is incompetent and in the pocket of special interest groups.

The "Christian Coalition" is the special interest that owns him.
Not sure if that is good or bad.
