How do we get to Heaven?

Basically, one should just search the scriptures and see what things are needed to have eternal life. If we truly rely on the sacrifice of Christ and appreciate what he has done for us, we will love God with all of our hearts and desire to follow Him and obey Him. We will get to KNOW God and live for Him, surrendering all to Him.

  • The Bible teaches that we must rely onlyupon the sacrifice of Christ for salvation
    Ephesians 2:
    8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    9: Not of works, lest any man should boast.</font>
  • When the rich young ruler asked Jesus what he must do to have eternal life, Jesus answered that he must keep the commandments. When the rich young ruler asked Jesus what he must do to have eternal life, Jesus answered that he must keep the commandments.

    Matthew 19
    16: And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
    17: And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
    18: He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

  • In the parable of the sheep and the goats, it was the sheep who were saved. They are the ones who helped others when they needed help, .. visited the sick, gave food to the hungry, etc

  • You must love one another to have eternal life:

    1Jn:3:15: Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.</font>
  • You must be righteous to have eternal life:

    1Cor:6:9: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind</font>
  • You must have a close relationship and KNOW GOD to have eternal life:

    Mt:7:23: And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

    Knowing God as defined by:

    1Jn:2:4: He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.</font>

You can get raptured up to heaven, something like this.

Revelation 11:12
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

Or you can be martyred:

Revelation 6:9-11
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

Genesis 28:12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!

The ladder represented to Jacob the world's Redeemer, who links earth and heaven together.

Jesus said, "He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep."

Then Jesus made it plainer,

"I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."


Christ is the door to the fold of God. From earliest times, it has been the only way to find entrance.

Through Him everyone is brought within the fold of His grace.

Throughout the ages many have devised ceremonies and systems by which they hope to receive justification and peace with God, and thus find entrance to His fold.

But Jesus Christ is the door, and all who have interjected something to take the place of Christ, all who have tried to enter the fold in some other way, are thieves and robbers.
