You know this question brings up another interesting question. But we will ignore the question of whether God's Word is actually 100% true or not (I believe it is) and move on to this: if it is then authoritative how can you be sure that the conclusion you come to from the Word of God is authoritative. And also how can the "urgings" I feel be verified as something God wants me to do and not just my own desires.
I am not trying to restate the question but move it past "what do you think is the best way to preach." I think the question is valid too, because I see much talking about how you know you have received some truth from God when some kind of supernatural feeling comes over you. I am not exactly sure how that crowd says it but I think it is something like that. I would maintain that the only way we can verify the leading of the Spirit is through the Word. And not just one verse out of context. I believe that you would have to have a good interpretation of the passage according to the principles of interpretation.
The question I rise then is what verification is there for those who would say that God has spoken to them but do not use the Word to verify that?
