How Does God Want Christians to Profit from Genesis 3:22-24?

Concerning the Fall of man, the Spirit ends the inspired account of that event in Genesis with the following statements:

Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

How does God want Christians to profit (cf. 2 Tim. 3:16-17) from this revelation?

where is the connection between Genesis and 2 Timothy?

Second Timothy 3:16-17 indisputably teaches that God gave all Scripture to profit His people:

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Genesis 3:22-24 is inspired divine revelation that is part of the all Scripture that God has given to profit His people.

Indisputably, therefore, God has given Genesis 3:22-24 to His people to profit them in all the ways that 2 Tim. 3:16-17 teaches that He did.

In the context of Romans chapters 1-11...

Knowing that, even though we have the knowledge of good and evil, we as a race choose to do evil constantly and thus needed a Saviour to save us from ourselves and our hardened condition;
And the knowledge of good and evil, combined with God's gift of being born again, would then lead us as believers to choose good instead of evil.

Our profit is in understanding all that the Lord has done for us and what He has brought us out of...
Darkness and the power of Satan and into the Light ( Ephesians 2:2, Colossians 1:13, 1 Peter 2:9 ) of His Son, Jesus Christ and to redeem for Himself a people, zealous of good works ( Titus 2:14 ).

The fundamental truth that what became a sinful nature in mankind was God's knowledge of good and evil. Understand, God is infinite good, and created man was only finite, a finite good.

Interesting responses but neither have directly to do with what the verses specifically reveal about the original subjects spoken of in the verses.

The place to start is to look closely at the specific content of the verses themselves. All 3 verses are records of divine speech or actions. Pondering what each specifically reveals is what we must focus on before thinking about the bigger picture.

Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

The first verse in this passage seems to reveal a stunning truth. Had Adam and Eve somehow yet eaten of the tree of life after the Fall, they would have lived forever in their sinful state.

Does this revelation have any bearing on the debates about annihilationism?

When people show up here with this "I'm going to show you how to understand this passage properly" attitude, with people they don't know it reaks of an agenda. Maybe you should get to know folks before you start displaying this arrogance.

Hmm. This is a telling response that exposes what is in your heart.

I want to discuss what the text of the verses actually say.

Hmm. This is a ridiculous response.

I wanted to discuss what the text of the verses actually say instead of what people want to talk about what they want to say about a passage.

Bub you want to show up here and prove whatever version you have of those verses is right and everyone else is wrong. Maybe you should slow down a bit and get to know folks before you start trying to tell everyone they are wrong.

I got news for ya. You are not going to convince anyone with this attitude of yours.

I do not have any version of the verses. I am not here to prove that everyone else is wrong.

You need to examine your own heart.

I read a passage and saw things that I had never seen before in my reading of that passage. I came on the site to discuss them with others but did not want to start with stating what I saw.

If you cannot handle that approach, you always have the option of not commenting.

23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

The second verse in the passage not only teaches us that God expelled Adam and Eve from the garden but also it teaches us that God sent him forth with the specific task of tilling the ground.

Even though they were fallen human beings, God did not send them out just to aimlessly wander through the rest of their lives on their own. God still had a will for their lives and made that will known to them.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

This verse is the first revelation in Scripture of God's use of angels in relation to humans. In this case, they were used to prevent humans from accessing the tree of life.

The verse also reveals the earliest known encounter of humans with a miraculous, supernatural object that they had never seen before and had no way of understanding how it worked--a flaming sword that turned every way. It is interesting to ponder whether their exposure to this supernatural weapon may have given them the idea of making some kind of sword for themselves.
