How effective are tracts?

Is it ineffective to quote John 3:16 to your fellow passenger on a tram?

How useful is a tract passed out willy nilly on the street, when one is picking them up off the pavement where they were instantly tossed?

I don't think there is an absolute answer to the question because there are so many factors involved. I like tracts and always carry a few in my coat pocket.

Cheers,

Jim

My Father uses tracts like the army uses artillary. He started a Spanish church some 30 years ago, and from the begining used lots of gospel tracts. Over the years he wrote about 20 different gospel tracts that attack some tenant of Catholicism, and contrasts them with the true gospel. His method is to print about 10,000 copies of one of the tracts, and then flood the Spanish community with them, via his door-to-door soul-winners. After about three or four months, he prints off 10,000 of another tract and repeats the process. It works out that about every three or four months every household gets a new challenge to their belief system, and another offer of the gospel. The Catholic priest has a radio program every Saturday, and howles about the "libritos" urging the faithful not to read them. After 30 years Dad's church has started over 40 daughter churches across the Americas. My brother in law was door knocking in a apartment complex and met a man who had read and kept every tract from Dad's church left on his door. Because of his work schedule ha had been unable to get to church, but was brimming with questions, and was easily led to the Lord. I am sold on tracts and give them out or leave them places every chance I can.

Praise the Lord, that's a wonderful testimony!! :applause:

I remember reading years and years ago a comparison of how much literature the Communists got out in China compared to how much literature the Christians got out, and it was no contest. The Communists won hands down, so China is Communist to this day. How shameful for Christians that we don't do more literature evangelism. Was not the Gospel of John actually a long tract (John 20:30-31)?

Plus, think about how much literature the JWs get out, and they do it worldwide. Plus, their stuff is always great quality, usually in color.
