P.S. I take it that you do not have children? I am sure if you did, you would view this in an entirely different manner.

Statements like this can be avoided in the future. When you start a thread out hostile, it will remain hostile.Originally posted by Promise:
Having a bit of trouble trying to get an answer, Catholics are just ignoring you...to bad, would have liked to hear an answer on this one.

Here we see an example of the breaking of the confessional vow bringing about good. So to answer the question, no one can say that the secrecy is 100%. The article I cite is from a Catholic web site (intentionally).Priest’s testimony clears defendant
Evidence ruled outside confessional seal
In July, a federal judge in New York overturned the conviction of a man who had been convicted and jailed 12 years ago in a murder case, after a priest came forward to say that another man had confessed the killing.
Jose Morales was found guilty in 1988 of beating and stabbing to death Jose Antonio Rivera. But at a special hearing, Father Joseph Towles testified that another neighborhood gang member, Jesus Fornes, had told him in 1989 that he and two other people—not Morales—were involved in the slaying. Fornes died in 1997.
US District Judge Denny Chin declared that if the priest’s statement had been disclosed at trial, “it is difficult to imagine that any reasonable jury could find Morales guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.” The priest testified that he kept quiet over the years because he considered the confession confidential. But he said he later came to the conclusion that it was not a sacramental confession as defined by canon law—even though he had given Fornes absolution. The Archdiocese of New York concurred in the decision.
At the time of the confession, Father Towles said, he urged Fornes to approach Morales’ attorneys with the truth, which he did. However, a court had ruled his testimony inadmissible because it came too late.
That has to be the most naieve thing I have ever heard.Originally posted by tulpje:
No, you never hear about Lutheran ministers raping children. Only Catholic priests. If you ask me that news, if it were news, would be just as worthy. It's because they aren't allowed to get married and have normal sexual relations.
I think that the Catholics here have answered the questions asked of them. I believe that the hostility peppered throughout some of the posts by non-Catholic Christians is more because they did not like our responses. And, since we are all to be respectful of others' opinions (we are all held to that standard, right? Not just CatholicsThe reason you detect hostility is because there is a question being asked that you don't have an answer to.
Well, first and foremost, the best Scriptural example I can give for celibacy is Jesus himself. Because he was unmarried and since he was perfect, I should think we'd agree that he was celibate. The vow of celibacy is unscriptual. If you can prove otherwise, please do so, using scripture only.
Well, first and foremost, it is not up to any of us to decide who is "fallen" and who is not. Remember, Jesus commanded us, "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-2 .The practice of confession to a fallen man is unscriptual. If you can prove otherwise, please do so, using scripture only.

I was going to use this verse in my reply, but you beat me to it!Originally posted by Deacon's Son:
