The Apostle Paul would disagree...
"5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who 'will render to each one according to his deeds': 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
(Romans 2:5-10)
Notice Paul states that God will render eternal life to those who do good.
Notice too that this will be done in the day of judgment. Notice Paul does NOT say that God will simply render rewards or a higher heavenly position or present day peace, joy, or assurance to those who do good, while the self-seeking and disobedient, while still being rendered eternal life, don't get those extra things.
And so would the Apostle Peter...
" 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:5-11)
And so would Bishop James, our Lord's Brother...
"14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith SAVE him?
"17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
"20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
"26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:14,17,20-24,26)
Notice James doesn't teach that faith minus works is dead and profitless for the purpose of gaining rewards in heaven or for having peace, joy, and assurance here on earth, but rather faith without works cannot SAVE a person. Such 'faith' would be a simple 'bare intellectual assent' to the truth of the Gospel, rather than the "faith which works through love" which actually "avails anything" "in Christ Jesus" (Gal 5:6).
And so would our Lord Jesus Christ...
28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation." (John 5:28-29)
Notice Christ doesn't say that those who have done good will simply get heavenly rewards and present day peace/joy/assurance, and that converserly those who don't do good will just not get these extra nice things, but will get to enter heaven anyway. Rather, Christ states those who have DONE GOOD will partake in the resurrection of LIFE and those who have DONE EVIL to CONDEMNATION.
That is my point in using them and asking these questions because there are many on this forum that think they can be justified by their works with a little help from God.
When we "circle back" to the case of the lost - looking for how the lost are to be justified - we see that in Romans 3 and Gal 3 - the only solution is Justification by grace through faith (Eph 2:8).
But when we get to the Perseverance of the saints (Rev 14:12, Rom 2:7) and the "Fruit of the good tree" (Matt 7) and yet balk wanting to circle back again to the view of the lost -- Paul tells us in Heb 6:1 that we are NOT to continually go back to "A" in the ABCs "laying again the foundation of repentance".

Bob
"IF you Love Me" (if you are a saint) "KEEP My Commandments" John 14:15 -- only THEN do we have the issue of "persevering in doing good" (Rom 2:7) because only then is the good tree bearing good fruit. (Matt 7)
So in that context we have --
Matt 10:22 endured until the end[/B] that will be saved.
1Tim 4]as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
Heb 2:1-3; Heb 3:12-14; Heb 10:35-39
39 But we are not of those who
shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.
1Cor 15:1-2
the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
Rom 11:22
if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
23And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
Col 1:21-23
Gal 6:7-9 Don't lose heart in doing good for reap et life IF we ..
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the
Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
Mark 13:13 Belief + enduring to the END = SAVED
Matthew 24:13 QUOTE]
Eschatalogical context - Enduring through PHYSICAL challenges so that one perseveres PHYSICALLY until Christ returns.
Bob, you charge me with circling back to justification by faith. However, you ignore the clear and explicit teaching of the Scriptuers about FALSE PROFESSIONS (Heb. 4:2) where the hearer of the gospel makes a profession but that profession is not MIXED IN THEIR HEART WITH FAITH and therefore they continue in a EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF. These are the ones who depart from the faith (1 Jn. 2:19) who were never part of believers in regard to genuine faith. Because you refuse to acknowlege the clear Biblical teaching of such a people you pervert the texts that deal with such a people or texts that are meant to identify such a people into imaginary texts of saved people becoming lost.
There is no circling back because there is no such doctrine of "perseverance of the saints" .
Here is the aspect of salvation that you simply are completely ignorant about. This is the present tense aspect of salvation that has to do with "REDEEMING THE TIME" (Eph. 5:16).
How to save your "life." The Christian can "put off the old man" and can "put on" the new man. Whatever "time" is dominated by one or the other is either redeemed/saved or lost.
...This has nothing to do with entrance into heaven .
When we "circle back" to the case of the lost - looking for how the lost are to be justified - we see that in Romans 3 and Gal 3 - the only solution is Justification by grace through faith (Eph 2:8).

Reread those Bible texts "slowllly".
Don't "just say nay" when you see Bible texts that do not fit man-made traditions.

Matt 10:22 but it is he who has endured until the end that will be saved.
1Tim 4
15Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.
16Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
Heb 2:1-3
1. For this reason we must pay close attention to what have heard lest we drift away from it
Heb 3:6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are,if we hold fast our confidence
and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
Heb 3:12-14
12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.
13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called ""Today,'' so that none of you will be hardened
by the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,
I realize that your answer above is probably the best dismissal of the texts above that can be had at the moment.
But I prefer the texts as they read.
in Christ,
Bob
No you don't! You prefer your interpretation of them which superficial only as they are jerked out of context.
So then ... you ARE happy to accept these texts AS they read or you still object to them??

Yes, I still accept these texts as they read in context and still reject your eisgetical jerked out of context misinterpretation of these texts.
I merely "quoted the text".
It is instructive to the unbiased objective reader that you "need such a spin" on the texts themselves that merely "quoting them" without your spin added to the text - is offensive to you.
Your position is more transparent than you suppose.
The texts speak for themselves. your opposition to them is more transparent to the reader than you have imagined - Ranting as you do whenever these texts are quoted is not the compelling way to show that you are embracing scripture.
Though innexplicably you seem to imagine otherwise -
in Christ,
Bob
