How likely is an American or even global revival to happen?

Over the past year or so I've been hearing sermons, reading devotionals, and observing people discuss that we are in the end times. I agree and believe this to be true, however there is one burning question that keeps surfacing to my mind. "Is there going to be one last great revival or awakening in America or even the world before the Rapture comes upon us? Or is America and the world too far gone in which I should just "take a knee and run out the clock" sort of speak and just wait for God to return?" Anyone have any thoughts or theories on this topic? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Revival applies to Christians resulting in evangelism. God knows if there will be another.

Why did the former revivals happen?

Christians got serious about prayer! Well it happen again? Who knows. But, seriously, let us all pray for it. . .

Are our churches preaching the gospel?
Or are they more concerned puting on an entertainment show

Are Christians serious about spreading the Gospel
or are we more concerned about enhancing our lifestyle.

This evening, I was attending the Baptist Convention of NY
(its our 50th Anniversary)
I was talking to a pastor who has been at his church for about 25 years.
When he arrived - there were about 15 members
About 10 years ago - still - they are running well over 200 people.

I asked what happened- he said he preached until folks got excited about the Lord
He also was out door knocking and started some home Bible Studies.

We need to be dedicated

I don't think - the people act then God reacts but - God acts then the people react.

We've been in the "end times/last days" since Pentecost (Acts 2) though obviously we are nearer to the final coming of the Lord Jesus for resurrection & judgment than ever before. Only God knows when. There have been periods of falling away & revival down the centuries.

We need to follow Jesus' advice & warning -
Mark 13:
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’ ”

Are we watching & praying, serving faithfully where we are?

I think that the church is in a poor, carnal state at present, so that any revival is likely to be local, centred on a faithful church, rather than a general revival across the country or the world. Perhaps we should pray & expect revival in the persecuted churches around the world, rather than in our prosperous situation.

There are two main views of revival which might be called the sovereign act view and the means view. The sovereign act view says that only God knows when a revival might come, and only He can send one. The means view says that if we fulfill God's preconditions, revival will come.

I hold to the second view for many reasons, but here is one: "And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ" (Rom. 15:29). So the apostle Paul could say with full assurance that he would bring revival with him to Rome, since he knew how it happened.

Revival can certainly come to America and perhaps the world, just like it has before. We must fulfill the conditions God has laid out in His Word: real and deep prayer (private and corporate), repentance from all known sin, fullness of the Holy Spirit, and honest efforts to reach the lost through personal and mass evangelism.

Before the Rapture? Why can't you just ask if there will be a revival in the next 10, 50, or 100 years, instead of injecting bad doctrine into your question. I don't expect a revival until a lot of bad doctrines that have become popular in the past century are left to history.

Your comment about taking a knee and running out the clock is a practical example of the destructive nature of Rapture teaching.

An awakening is likely. A revival? I doubt it.

It's as likely to come as it was likely to come in the 1770s with the First Great Awakening or the 1830s with the Second GA.

In my formal education "Awakenings" happened/happen suddenly with no human pleadings or prayer.

Revivals seemed to follow after such pleadings.

I see revivals as being mostly limited to the already saved.
You are absolutely correct. The term revival means to live again, so it occurs among people already saved. But when God's people get right, they are going to be witnesses for Christ and spread the Gospel, and with the power of the Holy Spirit coming down, they will see many saved. Personally, I see no way to separate Christians getting right and souls being saved in a revival movement. The first one occurs, followed immediately or even simultaneously by the second one.

The first Great Awakening is said to have begun with Jonathan Edward's sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." So Edwards was on fire for God, and his listeners either got right or got saved.

Actually, the great revivalists, including my grandfather, believed in a premillennial rapture. The Second Coming of Christ is a huge incentive to holy living, which brings revival.

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (1 John 3:2-3).

Persecution of the Church will lead to Revivals, The Church in China is being persecuted and growing

Yes this is very true. Christians in Iran are also being persecuted and growing as well. Interestingly, I have heard of accounts where muslims have had visions or dreams of seeing Jesus and getting saved that way. This is what I have heard, I have no way of knowing if this is or isn't true.
