Obviously this doesn't apply to any of you who were home schooled, but for any of you who went to a school (public or private)...K-6...how many male teachers did you have? (I'm using K-6 as that's what Elementary school was when I went...I realize that 6th grade is often considered Jr High now, but I'm saying it isn't)

I'm doing some research for a friend and this was one of his questions. I've posted it in a few other websites, trying to get a feel. I'll probably leave it for a few days and then take whatever info I have.

We need them desperately. Children need to see that both men and women take education seriously and they need both male and female role models in the early grades.

I'm all for fabulous male teachers of PK-6th grade. We have them at my church in AWANA, VBS, and children's choir.

6th grade seems to be the grade for men!! I had my first in 6th grade but I had male Bible teachers before that when I was in Christian school from 4-6th grade.

Fourth grade (Mr. Watson) and again in sixth (Mr. Jaquish). Mr. Crandall was the principal. I spent enough time in his office to count him as a third....

I had two. Mr. Harris in fourth grade and Mr. Connor in sixth grade.

can't vote, you failed to add "0" as an option. All women for me.
I can't vote either, but for different reasons. First, we don't have "Elementary Schools" so I didn't have any elementary school teachers, male or female.

Second, at our nearest equivalent, "Primary School", (ages 5-11) I had two male teachers, but I have a feeling that if I had voted for 2, it would have given a false impression, because I had one of those male teachers for one year (the year in which I was 8), and the other for three years (the years of my 9th, 10th and 11th birthdays).

All male "teachers", then I attended an all-boys public (private) boarding school. The first female "teacher" I had was in seminary, in Canada. She taught Hebrew.

I had a girl sit beside me in a Canadian University and I got up and moved....What a nerve to sit next to me..lol.

Cheers,

Jim

I'm not sure what the intended cut off is for elementary school. Am I correct to assume that it's 6th Grade (11 years old)? Other than Physical Education, I can't recall having a male teacher prior to the 7th Grade. In the 7th and 8th Grades I had a male Social Studies/History teacher.

Once in High School I had a few male teachers but only one to my recollection was not also a coach.
