How often to give to para-church ministries?

I gave a one-time $25.00 to Tony Evans' ministry about 12 years ago, with a note that it was simply one time because I could not afford to give regularly

I think they spent the whole 25 bucks on postage, sending me requests for more donations. That was the last time I gave any money to any ministry like that

This has been my case too on the occasions I have gave to such ministries. I used to support a child through compassion international and they were bad to do this as well.

The Gideons are one group that I like to support. Can't go wrong there IMO.

How do you support them? Their website is poorly designed and I am not aware of a way to give them money.

Never mind they must have updated their website since the last I looked.

Whats the diff between the Gideons and the Bible League?

My general philosophy is that the tithe goes to my local church and anything over and above that (offerings) can go to other ministries.

This seems to be one area of liberty and of conscience. I believe in free-will giving no doubt and that I should donate to the church primarily, but also I wish to donate to good ministries and missions organizations.

Sometimes when I go the a Christian book store, they're asking for a donation to give a bible to someone, and I'll do that. I don't know if that's Pocket Testament League, but it seems like it could be

After we commit our tithe to the local church, I will support some para-church ministries but not many. I prefer seeing ministries coming out of the local church or denominational activities than a para-church.

I believe that one must support your local church first, bringing offerings there, and whatever is left over after having paid bills, as God directs!
