journeyheaven: thanks for clarifying! I was hoping...
Abiyah, I understand what you are saying, but doesn't that just point out that there is so much that is cultural that we really shouldn't be judging other people for their clothes?
My daughter and her girlfriend attended church this morning (it was my turn to stay home with Chris), and they were in pants. Bianca is almost always in pants. When they arrived back here they included me in a deep discussion about the sermon, which had been about marriage -- biblical marriage. They had listened closely, as they do every time, and did not leave the sermon at church, but brought it home for talking about and thinking about.
And they sang part of a new hymn they had learned, which was really lovely.
They have guy friends -- tons of them -- who hang around a lot because Bianca and Kelli do not come on like the other girls with batting eyes and swivel hips and the like (regardless of what clothes are being worn!). A lot of the guys are not wealthy, and wear the same things to church as everyday. It's not always terribly impressive to the eyes, but these kids are serious about their faith and will come and talk about things they are working their way through. I appreciate their trust and they have all learned to use Concordances here, as well as the Hebrew theological wordbook and similar resources so they don't have to depend on a person always to help them dig their way through things they have puzzlements about.
I would rather see these girls in their somewhat sloppy (opposite of tight in this case) pants and tops and the guys in sometimes ripped-seam jeans and old t-shirts going to church and seriously discussing what they heard than all the cute and tidy teens in the world.
By dressing they way they do, both the guys and the gals, no one thinks they are acting snobby or pretending to be something they aren't. This is important to them, for we live in an area of stark contrasts. About a mile from us is a private airport and the people who live around it have hangars as well as garages for their private planes. Stop signs are low to the ground so the planes' wings won't hit them as they go the the main runway. The streets in that subdivision are very wide so accomodate private planes, which have the right of way over cars.
In the other direction, less than a mile away, is abject poverty.
These kids know how to fit in with either crowd. And God bless them for that.
Is she modest? Absolutely. Is the feminine -- yup. Those sparkly eyes and gorgeous thick hair, her bounce and giggle -- she's totally girl and enjoys it. At least we are mostly through the sparkle stage -- those sparkles ended up all over the house! Made vacuuming interesting...
Folks, it can get hot around here in the summers. It is not uncommon to see the carpenters take off their t-shirts and wrap them around their heads to keep the sweat out of their eyes while they work. I've not heard a complaint from anyone.
People take them lemonade and soda instead.
