Explainer: Who are the Afghan refugees coming to the U.S. and what happens when they arrive?

Media reports indicate that a significant number of Afghan refugees are expected to settle in Texas, with at least 48 coming to my city, Fort Worth, in the first wave.

In response, our church is partnering with World Relief to help with airport pick-ups, donations, ESL tutoring, Good Neighbor teams, and Walmart gift cards to help with providing critical items for setting up a household. We are plan to continue our work ministering to the existing refugee community here in Fort Worth -- many of them Muslim -- and building relationships with families to take the love and message of Jesus.

I’m glad to hear it.

I am praying that our churches in Fort Worth can help make a difference in the lives of these refugees and see much of the refugee community come to Christ.

I know a number of churches around here who stepped up during the earliest days of the pandemic to deliver food and household goods to refugee families. I pray it will continue, as needed.

"DHS is simply paroling these individuals into the country. That's how they get them here to the U.S., without any immigration status, and then they are doing the checks on the back end. You could have dangerous individuals at these military installations, leaving these military installations in some cases, and we find that they don't pass the screening and the vetting at the end of the day."

There's a difference between fact-checked, ethical journalism (from Fox News), statements from opinion pundits (Laura Ingraham, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity) which should not be taken as anything but opinion, and statements from interviews with guests (for instance, Chad Wolf) that have various levels of credibility.

Chad Wolf is not a credible person at all.

I don't know that we have a plan. Most likely see where people land. In Nashville I worked with Iraqi refugees (there is a large population in Nashville). Wonderful people. Great food.

Sometimes people forget we are speaking about people. I hope enough churches still have the mind of Christ.

We have to start with the love of Christ. We have to love people.

I pray that I am wrong but as I look around I am not sure there is much love in our churches except for a love of one's self, ones "rights", and ones way of life.
