How would your church receive these singers?

I love the old Gospel tunes, especially when they are sung to His glory. Well, I was watching a Gaither Big Tent Meeting Songfest, and these two, along with their group, sang an old church standard, and made it not only memorable by way of tight harmony and solid vocals, but humor at the right time, and just enough to make this group entertaining as well as ministering.

I am thinking of having them sing at our church, but would really like to know it any of your pastors and music ministers see any kind of problem? Furthermore, would you offer them whatever the free-will offering brings in, or would you pay them on top of the offering to arrive at a fair price. This is essentially what they want to perform!

Your view and opinions will be greatly appreciated! Shalom!!!! <3

Often groups want a set price - plus the offering + the opportunity to sell their tapes, ect.I
I understand that a workman is worthy of his pay - but demanding all three, IMHO is not acceptable.

For several years, I did some promoting for a husband & wife singing duet.
At every church I ever booked them at - all they asked for was a free-will offering and the
opportunity to sell their tapes.

Another time - a group wanted to sing at at our church, but they insisted on a minimum (about $100) but our
church was very small, and could not afford that amount. Then they informed that since they were coming
through our area anyways - they would be willing to come for $50 plus offering. I told them we had Zero dollars
budgeted for such events. Now if they were willing to come on a love offering and tape sales, that we could do.
They were not willing to accept that. The pastor had me negotiate - as he had a hard time saying no.

Bottome line - what is your church reasonable able to afford.
Also, will this happen on Sunday AM, night - during the week - other than Sunday am -......

Also your general location makes a different.

When I book my folks down South - attendance was not too bad - but up North here -
well, that was a different Story.

you will need a lot of advertising, check with local Christians radio stations, facebook, contact local pastors, ect.

The reputable artists accept freewill offerings!

and thats why most tend to preform down South - where the offerings will be more.

Also, the Duet I promoted, did not want to come up in Jan - Mar - due to possible snow.
If they were scheudled for a weekend of concerts ( usually about 5) and we had a severe snow
storm - that is 5 bookings they would loose out on.

One year, that I brought them up was on Mothers Day weekend. The night before,
Cindy got joking about the snow - I told, snow is not a joking matter in Syracuse
and what happened the next day?
Thats right - it snowed!!!

and Syracuse is the usual winner of the Golden Snowball award.

Reminds me of a book read by Chuck Swindoll, and he wondered why it was that people claimed the Holy Spirit would want them to be the speaker at the summer meeting, but never in the Winter time one?

More often than not, Syracuse records the most snow of any city of 100,000 or more. 2014-15 was an upset when eastern Mass. got bombed and Lowell was the top.

We had the Primitive Quartet in our church a few weeks ago. The concert was very well attended. We have had major groups in the past that have also done well. We've had Greater Vision twice. The Tribute Quartet twice. The Inspirations a few times. The Kingsmen very couple of years. Mark Trammell has been here twice, I believe. We had Squire Parsons stop in occasionally when his health would allow it.

On only one of these occasions did we pay the group's "flat rate." When the flat rate is given, tickets are normally sold and no love offering is taken. I've never heard of a group demanding their flat plus a love offering. My nephews are in the industry (The Ball brothers) and they either get their flat or a love offering. Sometimes, if a church cannot pay the flat, the group will reduce the flat considerably and then get a love offering. Never would this exceed the original flat fee.

Our church is one that the booking agents know will allow the groups to come in if they are simply passing through and need a place to sing. This is always on a love offering basis. They are happy if they get enough to fill the bus with fuel.

Regarding the group mentioned in the OP, I am not very familiar with them as individuals. Their music does get a lot of playtime on Enlighten and Pandora. They have a great sound if you like that genre.

Some of the most reputable I know come for a negotiated price. Bus gotta have fuel and babies got to eat. Does the pastor preach for love offering?
Not the ones that we have in the local church, but guest speakers do!

In the nineteenth century, Spurgeon welcomed at his church a gospel group that's still around today: Nashville's Fisk Jubilee Singers. Their singing brought them £200+ and applause[!] at the Tabernacle.

Account of the Fisk Jubilee Singers ministering at the Metropolitan Tabernacle with Spurgeon:

The Jubilee Singers in Great Britain • Internet Archive

"[Spurgeon:] "I heard the Jubilee Singers sing a piece, 'Oh, brothers, don't stay away, for my Lord says there's room enough in the heavens for you.' I found tears coming in my eyes, and looking at my deacons, I found theirs very moist too. That song suggested my text and my sermon to-night. Now, as a part of the sermon, I am going to ask them to sing it, for they preach in the singing ; and may the Spirit of God send home this word to some to-night—some who may remember their singing if they forget my preaching." Then followed the singing, with such clearness and power, that all the vast audience of five or six thousand people could hear; some, forgetting themselves, broke out into spontaneous applause with clapping of hands at the close. I have heard it said several persons date their conversion from that evening."

My sister and her husband live in Cape Coral, Fl. We live in Palm Beach, Fl.

Cape Coral is still much the way it was when Florida was part of the South. Palm Beach is full of Yankees and is essentially the Jersey Shore with palm trees.

They get all the Southern Gospel and bluegrass music over there, but if I say "Southern Gospel" here, nobody will have a clue what I'm talking about.

Up North here - when you say Gospel - most consider that as Black Gospel

The singers I was referring to are Lee and Cindy Condran - However, there is no more duet - as Lee was promoted to Heaven earlier this year.

I don't even think they would know that here. When we lived in New Jersey, the only people who knew what SG was, were all the people from Alabama in our church who came up to work for RCA.

Can't help here, as my church doesn't have music. Nothing against it; it's just that our church is small, & would rather concentrate on preaching-teaching.

There's a church in my area that has an 80-member choir, with a well-paid pro musician as its director, & they put on spectacular shows. They have several expensive sets of robes, wearing a different one each service. The music lasts longer than the sermon ! While the pastor SEEMS to be genuine, I know two people who work for that church & they say he's very demanding & domineering. One of these workers is a door-to-door "witness" in the manner of the JWs. While it's his job to attempt to present the Gospel, he's also required to tell the residents, "BTW, I attend (the church in question)".

I attended a coupla services there. While there was no special emphasis on offerings, & the pastor doesn't mention it, there are signs in the offering plates encouraging additional offerings, with an address of where to mail 'em & whom to make out any chex to.(the name of the church itself.)

The pastor's sermons aren't BIBLE-centered, but generally are about what God did, Jesus' miracles, what Godly men did, etc. They're entertaining, but more history lessons than presenting the Gospel, & to me this church "has a form of godliness, but denies the POWER of it."
