Huffington Post: “We Made a Decision Not to Cover the Gosnell Trial”

In a HuffPost Live segment today on the issue, host Marc Lamont Hill admitted what many pro-life advocates have been thinking:

“For what it’s worth, I do think that those of us on the left have made a decision not to cover this trial because we worry that it’ll compromise abortion rights. Whether you agree with abortion or not, I do think there’s a direct connection between the media’s failure to cover this and our own political commitments on the left. I think it’s a bad idea, I think it’s dangerous, but I think that’s the way it is.”

Keep the Lemmings walking off the liberal cliff of immorality. It's real funny how the left claims the right is brainwashed by the likes of Rush and Hannity, when they in fact are brainwashed by silence, if you will.

You know what, I keep hearing that the national media is ignoring this case and yes perhaps they aren't covering it in the same way as say the Boston bombing, but they haven't ignored it completely. I learned of it through CNN or MSNBC's (don't remember which but I read both regularly) website when the guy was still being investigated. I knew when the trial began in the same way.

There is a difference between not making a huge deal of it and ignoring it completely. I think when we accuse someone of ignoring something, we need to at least be accurate in our accusations.

First they just got there after liberal Democrat Kirsten Powers called them all out on it. Second Liberal Democrat Mark Lamont spoke about the lack of coverage by liberals and said it was based on the fear that it would put a bad light on abortion.

So you need to get all the facts.

CNN has had ten distinct segments covering the trial of Jodi Arias and, until last week, zero segments on Kermit Gosnell.

The media blackout is obvious and is being commented on in a lot of places, including Washington DC and within their ranks.

This blackout was a coordinated effort of editors and agents of the established media to silence a terrible evil about the abortion holocaust in the United States.

The Gosnell case made the Wall Street Journal again today. The article covered the whys and wherefores of the media's silence on the case.

Liberal commentator: we ‘made a decision’ not to cover Gosnell to protect abortion

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 17, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A left-wing media commentator has said what many pro-life activists long believed: that an overwhelmingly liberal media consciously chose not to cover the trial of Kermit Gosnell, because they feared it would undermine their political stance on abortion.

“For what it’s worth, I do think that those of us on the Left have made a decision not to cover this trial because we worry that it’ll compromise abortion rights,” said Marc Lamont Hill, a Columbia University professor known for his frequent appearance on Fox News. “Whether you agree with abortion or not, I do think there’s a direct connection between the media’s failure to cover this and our own political commitments on the Left.”

Hill said he thought the captivity of media coverage to a “progressive” political agenda was a negative development but one that may be insurmountable.

NY Times Will Not Devote a Reporter to Gosnell Trial After All

Having been on the Gosnell case for a few days, the NY Times is now pulling back.

After the Times' public editor was critical of the paper's lack of coverage, editors assigned reporter Trip Gabriel to cover the trial Monday. He submitted one story Monday evening which appeared on page A12 of Tuesday's paper.

Today a columnist for the Bucks County Courier Times noted that Gabriel will not be covering the trial on a daily basis.

I was at a truck stop yesterday and ask many folks about this case, only three people knew what the case was about. You were way ahead of the curve.

I'm still a bit in disbelief over the repeated comments about the lack of media coverage.

Bro. Curtis is not ahead of the curve, he just chooses to be informed of what's going on in the world without relying on 1-3 whitewashed media outlets to come ringing his doorbell and screaming it in his face. Everyone has that ability.

Just go read. There's no big secret campaign to hide it, just some who don't want to because it's too messy. It's all over "enough" of the news to be known to those who do more than surface watch. Even the alleged "news blackout" concerning this news was on the news! So even in the places where it's allegedly not getting covered, it's getting covered by default.

There is a simple solution to help more people know about this, and I'm not being sarcastic. Find a link to the story, copy the link, type up a small explanation, and then make some copies and pass it out. That way you are not violating any copyrights or anything, you're simply providing a link to the story that anyone can look up that chooses to do so.

Then it will get even more attention. The more interest people show in it, the more likely a news agency is to report on it. No matter what, the bottom line is always money, and interest equals money. If someone isn't reporting on a story, then the politics of not reporting it are outweighing the money that could be made by the number interested in hearing the story, so you have to up the number of those interested. That's likely why you're seeing places that aren't reported on it doing ridiculous things to NOT report it, yet still use the doctor's name. (ultimate jerky way to make money, imo)

I take a few minutes to glance at the head lines of the paper each day, I give about the same amount of time to looking up news as I do on this board, less than a half an hour a day. If it isn't front page news, most of the time I don't get it. Might be bad on my part, but there is more to life than hunting under every little page to fine the news. I read the Jerusalem Post and USA Today every day(front page and go from their) and I look at the Times Union a few times a week. If the news isn't in front of me I don't see it. Again, bad on my part.

Bob, I don't think it's "bad" if people choose not to get into the news on a deep level. It's their personal choice. I have my times when it's just too depressing. It's just that if one WANTS to be fully informed and doesn't take the steps to become informed, it's silly for that person to complain when that it takes a few clicks to become informed, and that's what I'm hearing from a few people. The ease of access to information in modern times is outrageously simple, so it burns me to hear people complain about lack of coverage. Of course news sites have political agendas and don't cover certain topics. That's just how it is. Bias in reporting is an accusation made since people started chiseling stuff onto stone tablets. LOL

I personally go through spurts of involvement. It doesn't change. War, murder, death, it's depressing! Happynews.com is a great site. LOL Also, being informed comes with an obligation to act on what we know, so some of my lack of involvement is simply waiting until my kids are older and I'm ready to take on the obligations and consequences of that, as my first obligation is to them. (ie if I join a protest or a group that lobbies for such and such, it could impact my family and would be better put off until there aren't children in the home for it to negatively affect, etc..)
